Can I eat mortadella when pregnant?

Hi I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have a real craving for a mortadella sandwich. Just bought some pre-packaged mortadella from Tesco (not the deli counter) and just wanted to check if I can actually eat it. From what I've googled I believe it's technically cooked. But it's not clear from NHS website or other websites if I can eat it. Just wondering if anyone else knows?

Is it just a cooked meat? Of course it's ok to eat

Women in italy eat it. You'll be fine.

I guess it depends on your attitude to risk. Odds are its fine but I was extra careful when I was pregnant and didn't eat any deli meat/prepackaged cold meat. I have a history of miscarriages so just wanted to be as careful as I could.

If you are worried, could you heat it?

There is a small risk of listeria. But it’s small on packaged meats, much higher if it’s home made cured meats.

I ate packaged cured meats in pregnancy due to gestational diabetes, salami was my treat.

Mortadella is cooked for hours and hours, go ahead and enjoy your sandwich!
