Amsterdam for family break

Which are the best areas in Amsterdam for a family break? Central so we can walk around, culture etc but no drugs or sex stuff.

We stayed at a great hostel (Generator) on a park that had green parakeets flying around. We bought a three day travel pass and hopped on trams to get to the Dam square area (not far), and to galleries/museums etc a little further away. I loved Amsterdam!

Thanks shockers. That sounds great and like the type of holiday we might have had when DCs were younger. I should have mentioned in original post that DCs are now grown up and this is a silver wedding treat break so we are looking for something central and more than we would normally spend on a city break. What is a classy, pretty central area?

My favourite area is around De 9 Straatjes, it’s just beautiful. The city centre isn’t that big so easy enough to walk to much of it.
