Oh fuck, am I able to use these chicken fillets?

Ordered a big pack of chicken fillets at the start of December but ended up freezing them. Date on them was 7th Dec but froze on the 5th. Decided to use them for xmas dinner as the family want stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon instead of Turkey. As I don't have a huge freezer MIL had them in her freezer and took them out for me on Monday night to defrost. They're fully defrosted now BUT by the time I cook them they'll be fully defrosted for 24 hours, possibly 26 hours. Considering they were dated 7th should I just chuck them and go with the ham I have or cook them tomorrow (when almost 24 hours defrosted) or cook them tonight and reheat tomorrow.

I am a shit cook and would usually ring my Mum and ask her what to do but she died this year and it's times like this when I realise how often I needed her advice.

They will be fine, thinking of you at this time. Have a glass of wine and a moment to just remember your mum Thanks

Aquamarine1029 · 24/12/2019 20:01

If they smell fine they are fine. Just cook thoroughly and they'll be perfect.

witherwings · 24/12/2019 20:04

Sorry about your mum.
And yes, chicken will be fine. We've just had some fillets that were out of date yesterday. Ate some last week that was 2 days out of date (must get more organised with meals)

Teateaandmoretea · 24/12/2019 20:05

That sounds like the effect defrosting time to me Smile

Teateaandmoretea · 24/12/2019 20:05

Perfect

Drum2018 · 24/12/2019 20:09

You'll know if they are off if they smell. I put some in fridge to defrost on Friday and didn't use them til Sunday. They were fine.

Oh phew!!

Thank you all, was expecting Xmas to be hard but she loved this time of year so I'm channelling that xmas spirit for the kids and she would be tutting loudly that I've still not mastered defrosting/cooking times yet!

So sorry to hear about your Mum. I’m the worst cook in the world so can’t advise you about defrosting 💐
