I think there are restrictions in place for Harrods Santa now. You have to own a superyacht and shit diamonds or something equally bling and vulgar.

someone posted about this on the 'visiting santa' thread that is active

Friend had similar complaints about taking niece & nephew to see FC at Hamleys - £40 per child, no drinks etc for parents, cheap gifts, booked timed entry, but running very late - would they like to look around the store for 45 minutes?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 23/12/2019 11:41

oh that was me misreading the thread, the other thread was referring to Hamleys not Harrods!

We’ve done Harrods, although a few years ago now before you had to be the aforementioned billionaire Grin
Timed slots and long queues although we did queue through tunnels of lights and there were elves playing with the children. You couldn’t take your own photo with Santa, they took it and you had to pay if you wanted it. Gifts were a bit of tat, a tin with some colouring paper in for one I think, but were age appropriate. I wouldn’t go again, as I mentioned on the other thread Fortnums was much much better.

You can't see Santa in Harrods unless you spend £2000 in the shop first.

Seriously, I'm not making it up, it's true.

We visited FC at Harrods for 10 years in a row. It got progressively more and more difficult to get tickets each year. And then luckily the year they went full-on ‘you need to spend 50 million quid in the store in order to have a cat’s hope in hell chance of getting a ticket’ coincided with the year when the DCs got too big to properly believe in FC any more. We still go there before Christmas every year (going today in fact) for an overpriced ice-cream. Am hoping to do away with that soon too.

Another one here who visited Harrods FC every year for 10 years, until they did the minimum spend of £2000. Presents were always lovely, along with a chocolate coin. Some examples are a Harrods Christmas book one year and a Harrods baby toy the previous year.
FC isn't the most realistic looking, but the room is decorated lovely and he is very friendly. Good experience in the queues, but I've never had to wait that long. Like pp said, it progressively got harder and harder to get tickets due to high demand as it's essentially a free experience.
Yes, they expect you to pay for the photos.
