How brave am I to go Christmas shopping today?

youcanonlydraftthefuture · 23/12/2019 09:42

I've left almost everything until last minute Blush

DS (2) is completely bought for. Everything done. It's just DH and a few others.

Am I mad to brave the shopping centre today? Won't tomorrow be even worse?

I don't have to do a food shop since I'm not hosting Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

It's just presents.

It'll be fine. I am going non-Christmas shopping today. Just a couple of non-Christmas related things I need. It won't take long - two shops and I can walk there.

GreenTulips · 23/12/2019 09:46

Most people will be done and dusted

Go - it won’t be as bad as you think. Just avoid lunchtime rush.

YorkieTheRabbit · 23/12/2019 09:48

Good luck Xmas Grin
I hate shopping 🛍 I’m not keen on people either. The thought of trooping round the shops, trying to find something suitable, would be my idea of hell. Xmas Sad
The internet was made for folk like me Xmas Smile

DH went yesterday with our 3 year old and no pushchair - he's much braver than me!

I'm doing the food shop this afternoon.

halcyondays · 23/12/2019 10:05

It will be quieter if you wait until late in the day.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/12/2019 10:07

Would have been less stressful if you had done it earlier. I don’t really understand last minute shopping, it’s the same date every year.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 23/12/2019 10:09

Honestly just go and get it done then you have xmas eve to do nothing but excite the little one about Christmas or make a gingerbread house

GreenTulips · 23/12/2019 10:12

My mother always shows last minuet. Sled have started and gift wrap is half price.
Even turkeys come down in price.

Just because people do it differently doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Mum just refuses to buy into the hype.

HelenaJustina · 23/12/2019 10:14

We’re popping to shops today (combining with a walk and a festive activity with DC) as DH hasn’t bought my Christmas present yet. Am hoping it’ll be fine!

GoGoLego · 23/12/2019 10:14

I'm going to the local city this pm. I'm hoping most people will have everything wrapped by now. Going in with a game plan and know exactly what I need. So hope to be and put no fuss

BarbedBloom · 23/12/2019 10:36

It isn't too bad in town today save for M&S which I am braving later to collect my food order. I suspect tomorrow is when last minute shoppers may hit as a lot of people finish work early. However my friend said it was hell this weekend so many may already be done.

Bluesheep8 · 23/12/2019 10:54

I've done the Christmas food shopping this morning. Aldi at 9am and Morrison's at 10. I was anticipating chaos but both supermarkets were fine. Quite chilled out actually. Still got 2 vouchers to get and a selection box. I need the sense of last minute panic to galvanize me into action. Got most of my wrapping left to do too.

Southmouth · 23/12/2019 10:58

We went to the shopping centre yesterday, parked up fine and wasn’t any busier than usual. However the supermarkets we passed on the way home were absolutely rammed with cars just driving round and round the car park to try and get a space

MustardScreams · 23/12/2019 10:59

I’ve still got tons of presents to buy. I am VERY disorganised! I’m going tomorrow once dd is at nursery. It’ll be fine (probably).

Rumboogie · 23/12/2019 11:08

I went to M and S at 7.30am to change a jumper I had ordered that was faulty (!). Not too busy when I arrived, but huge queue of cars coming in as I was leaving at about 8am

bookmum08 · 23/12/2019 11:16

I went shopping yesterday. It was really quiet. Most Christmas themed stuff has sold out though so I hope you weren't relying on reduced bargains!

IDidItWrong · 23/12/2019 11:18

All presents bought and wrapped but I need to go food shopping this afternoon, am dreading it, its normally bedlam with empty shelves and loadsa people, chatting in the aisles, trollies in way can feel a headache coming on already. Said on news that it is the busiest shopping day todayXmas Sad

MustardScreams · 23/12/2019 11:20

@IDidItWrong go late tonight or very early tomorrow.

I went at 6am to get the last bits and by 8am it was heaving.

Northernmum100 · 23/12/2019 11:22

I called into Aldi on my way to work for salad, fruit and some dips etc and the car park was packed with people driving around looking for spaces. It was 8.10am! Luckily it was a cheery atmosphere inside with no long queues at the tillsSmile.

Sainsburys over the road though looked a lot worse....

Spanielmadness · 23/12/2019 11:23

Just get whatever you can from a supermarket or out of town shopping centre. Supermarket/garage gifts are the way forward this late in the day.

whatnow40 · 23/12/2019 11:25

I'm at Asda now and it's hell. Car park full, roads choca, tempers frayed. No deserts, except cheesecake, which DS won't eat as it has cheese in it. Ffs. Save yourself, hibernate.

itcamefrombeckyvardyself · 23/12/2019 11:26

Just been the m and s in queens drive by the stag and rainbow for anyone who lives near by!

Absolute murder to get out that car park. Worse than usual but the actual m and s wasn't that busy.

Braving it to Liverpool city centre in a bit for story time with santa 🎅. Then my mum wants to go to primark.

gamerwidow · 23/12/2019 11:26

I went about an hour ago. It wasn’t that busy. A lot of people will be at work because it’s a normal working day for most.
