Just curious. We posted one today!

You will get a lovely reply off them.

One year we posted really late and it must of arrived after Christmas. We still got a reply detailing all the work Mr and Mrs Claus had put in over the holiday etc. It was really nice to receive after Christmas

We've sent them every year but three children don't put their address so (obviously) we don't get a reply. That's really nice that they do that though.

Aragog · 22/12/2019 18:48

You may be a little late for a reply according to these links. Deadline was December 6th.

If you do it next year - post early and also include a SAE to get a reply from the man himself.

Blendette · 22/12/2019 19:58

I didn’t know about the reply so hadn’t put the address on or anything! Nevermind.

When I was a teenager, my grandad told me they take the letters northward in a helicopter, and drop them over the north pole. I'm not sure if I believed this, any more than I believed in Santa!

You could always show the Raymond Briggs cartoon of the grumpy but loveable Father Christmas, going through the letters in his ordinary townhouse.

They read them & reply (where applicable) then recycle them.
There’s a team (lots of retired postal workers) who do this.

That's one of the loveliest things I've read in a while.

If you write before the deadline you'll get a reply - the letter you send needs a stamp on it and an address inside to reply to, but IIRC you don't need a SAE.

Oldraver · 23/12/2019 15:30

You could send one now with an SAE and get the post Christmas reply

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 23/12/2019 15:37

Just type out your own and drop it on the doormat!

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 23/12/2019 16:12

We didn’t get a reply this year! Bit sad about this.

Holdingtherope · 23/12/2019 16:25

Do the retired postal workers get paid?!

Thesearmsofmine · 23/12/2019 16:30

If you include your address they reply, we got ours about 2 weeks after sending. No SAE needed. We send them every year in early December.

My 9 year old said this year that Father Christmas is obviously real because he has an actual address!

I love the idea that they take them to the North Pole by helicopter @wanderings

I hope the letter get read before being recycled.

BertieDrapper · 23/12/2019 16:36

We sent one well before the deadline but still haven't had a reply. Thankfully DDs only 3 so she's not thought much else about it!

Fraggling · 23/12/2019 16:37

Holding my assumption would be the retired postal workers do it voluntarily as a nice festive thing for children.

Are you imaging a production line of enslaved elderly people or something?

Slightly odd response not sure where you're coming from. You honestly think they are obliged, contractually or something?

I mean if that's who does it, seems not that unlikely though!

Thesearmsofmine · 23/12/2019 16:37

One year our reply cake just after Christmas so don’t lose hope!

MrsLJ2014 · 23/12/2019 19:09

BertieDrapper They said if you hadn't had a reply by 15th December to email them so I did and we got a letter back 2 days later!

santamail@royalmail com for future reference!
My email reply was from Elfina, chief letters elf 😂

No SAE needed, just a stamp on the envelope you send yours in and your address on the letter.

MrsLJ2014 · 23/12/2019 19:11

Obviously with a . between royal mail and com!

Holdingtherope · 23/12/2019 21:55

Knowing how the Royal Mail work I was yes thinking they would be enslaved!

Must be quite a task

BertieDrapper · 23/12/2019 22:00

@MrsLJ2014 thank you
