Are Shark vacuums shit or is mine broken?

I have the corded duo clean true pet model.

I loved it at first but it just seems to pick the bits up and keep them swirling round, then when I lift it off the ground it spits all the bits back out!

I've emptied it and everything there are no blockages. Is it just mine!?

It seems to work better on my thicker carpet, thinner carpet or hard floors it's crap and does the spitting out thing! Argh

I don't have the same one as you but I find that my shark is also crap on hard floors. Amazing on any type of carpet though. Most hoovers I've owned don't really pick up on hard floors annoyingly.

missjaysays · 21/12/2019 14:05

I had a Henry before the Shark and it was really good! Just hated lugging it up the stairs.

My problem is we have this awful thin carpet in the dining room left by the previous owners, no underlay or anything and it just won't pick the bloody bits up! I'll have to try sweeping itXmas Hmm

Mine does this when the foam filter needs washed. I find it ridiculous that it knows this and strops like that. Fifteen years my dyson never had filter issues. Fifteen minutes shark does

They’re very shit

missjaysays · 21/12/2019 14:24

It's making me so mad!

I've changed the filter sponge, it makes no difference for me!

Update 😩

Found a hidden blockage. Never had any of this faff with Henry.

Mine went like that too. I love my shark but it does block easily

Mrscog · 21/12/2019 14:57

Mine did that but it was blocked in the pipe - I took it to pieces to get it all out properly.

Mrscog · 21/12/2019 14:57

Ah I see you’ve found the hidden blockage!

Newcatmum · 21/12/2019 15:01

Oh no Sad. I have absolutely no luck with hoovers I've lost count of how many I've owned (I've had 3 this year, currently borrowing my gran's Vax). I'm sitting patiently waiting on my Shark arriving today I've been so excited as read so many good reviews.

GeriAtric · 21/12/2019 17:59

I love finding a blockage and clearing it. I find it very satisfying! My Shark blocks quite frequently but I think it's because I hoover things that really ought to be picked up by hand.

izzybobsmum · 21/12/2019 18:04

I have had a Shark for a couple of years and never had any problem with it. It's much better than the Dyson I had before it

missjaysays · 21/12/2019 22:50

@Newcatmum it's not that awful really. I think I like it. It just blocks really easily and you have to completely take it apart to get it out. You need something long that you can shove in it to push the blockage out, my knife wasn't very effective.

I haven't had this problem with my shark although admittedly I've only had it two weeks. Every other hoover I've had has involved long problem solving tube based interaction around blocking but admittedly I've only ever had shitty Bush fifty quid hoovers before. I love my shark because it is positively space age in comparison and I've already hoovered up a load of Xmas needles and it's been fine. You do need to adjust the switch from carpet to hard floor though. Have you done that?

howrudeforme · 21/12/2019 23:01

I’m finding this. The first time I used the dust container had to be emptied for each room.

I now find i have to cut out my hair from the rollers after every use. Rubbish on hard floors.

I’ve gone back to my 20 year old Miele.😳

BrokenWing · 21/12/2019 23:08

My shark is crap on hard floors, needs the filter washed regularly to keep it working, blocks constantly and is a pain in the neck to get out when the blockage is in the hose, doesn't stay upright when using the tools.

Never had blockage with my old dyson and the filter only needed cleaned once every couple of years.

Newcatmum · 21/12/2019 23:17

missjaysays oh dear that's my biggest problem with cheap hoovers having to unblock them all the time I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do that with the Shark. On a side note I am horrified at how much lifted up off my living room carpet tonight with the Shark it's only 8 months old and I hoover every day sometimes twice !

pumpandthump · 22/12/2019 05:40

Love my sharks!

ProfYaffle · 22/12/2019 05:46

I have exactly the same model of Shark, had it about a year or so and no problems at all. I do clean the rollers regularly though.

Sweetooth92 · 22/12/2019 07:03

We use a bamboo cane for shifting blockages. Usually works! I think it blocks more because it picks up so well for us and we’ve a toddler and two big dogs which shed like crazy so it’s always got its work cut out

Mumdiva99 · 22/12/2019 07:12

I've had one 18 months and it's still good. I've only banged the sponge filter a few times to get the dust off....it takes 24 hours to dry and I always want to keep hoovering. It's never blocked up. I do regularly clean hair off the brush. How are you guys getting blockages? What causes them? Do you continue hoovering when the thingy is full?

TheVanguardSix · 22/12/2019 07:33

I just couldn't get on with mine. I really loathed the Shark. I sold it to a guy who swears by them.
Thank goodness I kept my old Miele. It's my tried and true, ol' reliable. It's great on any surface. I just want a hoover that plugs in and goes and does what it's meant to. The Shark was just too much of a hassle, too high maintenance. I don't need a hoover that says, 'Oh it's time to stop everything and look after me, unblock me, charge me, clean my rollers please,' from the utility cupboard. Grin
It's a bit of 'the tail wagging the dog' going on.

Firecarrier · 22/12/2019 09:03

Had one about 3/4 years one of the best things we've ever bought!
