Tooth pain now in lower gum and jaw

Argh I’m in blasted agony

Chipped a tooth at the start of dec - phoned dentist as was slightly tender and had my appointment on Monday - said tooth is now infected and I’m on antibiotics but the pain is now in my lower gum and jaw! My face is starting to swell. The tooth actually feels ok 🤷‍♀️ It’s like the infection has moved down.

I’ve been taking bufen and co-codamol and antibiotics for 3 days, also been trying warm saline mouthwash.

Do I need to go back and see the dentist or give the antibiotics a bit longer to work?? Dentist said he won’t removed the tooth till the infection is gone. Last thing I want is a massive infection over Christmas

Please help before I decide to take the pliers to the tooth...

Is the infection getting worse rather than better? You may need different antibiotics. X

The tooth feels better I can bite down on it now, but my gum and jaw are agony, and my jaw is swollen and is very tender to touch.

I’m on metronidazole 400mg as I am allergic to quite a few antibiotics I’m wondering if I call them they can recommend something else?

You need to ring the dentist, first thing as the tooth needs 'opening up' to drain the abscess, make yourself available for anytime they can offer you as the chances are the abscess will get worse unless they do this procedure , politely insist you are seen today.

Please please don’t touch any alcohol if you are taking Metronidazole, I talk from experience with alcohol mouth wash.

Sounds like you might have an abscess which might need draining or stronger antibiotics. If it feels like a stabbing pain in the jaw/gum that's probably what it is. Best not to leave it, find an emergency dentist.

It would also explain the swelling.

They can’t give me an appointment today but have one tomorrow morning at 9.45 am...I have asked to be contacted if they have a cancellation

Now just survive till then
