What about any of these?

UGH I couldn't even finish that video @Hellbentwellwent !
The third(?) video where the guy kicked the robot down, I was convinced at first it was people wearing a robot costume on their heads and scrambling to get standing back up. Creepy!

I find these robots utterly fascinating and creepy in equal measures.

I probably wouldn't have one in my home - I read a lot of science fiction and it's rarely a good idea! Grin

This is the field my teenage son wants to go into. He is currently working on a device to shut the chicken house door automatically at night once they've gone in. He spends ages designing and programming robots with Lego Mindstorm.
I am hoping he is successful in his aspirations and that he gets staff discount wherever he ends up. I will very happily delegate the housework and other dull tasks to robots.

They are seriously creepy I'm not sure if it would be better or worst if the yellow dog type things only went in one direction and have a head on the fact that it walks forward and then apparently backwards just as easy is very strange and I don't know why I find this strange Confused

I think it's known as "uncanny valley" where what you know is real is infiltrated by things that are built and made to try and be real too, but you know they're not.

I guess it's maybe a sign to come soon from Alexa and the like? Though I don't mind Alexa, personally, even though I don't have one in my home. But If I went to someone's house and that dog thing was in their house, I would have to end up leaving. I could not be sitting down and have that thing coming towards me, I'd be scared. I don't know why I find it strange either, especially if I wouldn't have the same reaction from a real dog, but I just do.

I cant stop watching Boston Dynamics videos even though they give me the heebie jeebies. That dog robot is straight out of Black Mirror.
Its the way they move; its not like any live animal and I can't read them or predict what they will do next.

BonnyConnie · 20/12/2019 20:26

That noise! It would drive me mad.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 20/12/2019 20:28

Definitely not getting one of the dogs after watching the Black Mirror episode with Maxine Peake.

aggitatedstate · 20/12/2019 20:57

@iklboodolphrednosedreindeer that was horrendous that episode

TheNameGames · 20/12/2019 21:15

Written and inspired a Charlie Brooker Black Mirror episode

"Coming Soon"

Uguh, i really, really hope not. It's unsettling. I heard in American supermarkets they have robot floor cleaners that move around and greet customers and I would have freaked out if I was minding my own business and someone "spoke" to me and I turned around and it was a ten foot robotic machine.

I would not have that in my home

I won’t even get an Alexa/google chrome or any of those either

They all scare me

NightsOfCabiria · 20/12/2019 21:52

They fascinate me and make me feel uneasy due to their unpredictability and newness.

What unsettles me more is the fact that these are in the public domain. You can bet that those developed for military use and classified are far more advanced and frightening.
