OK, talk to me about electric blankets...

Possibly the most boring post ever... I’m getting an electric blanket for Christmas, which I‘m excited about (I know), but have been asked which specific one I’d like. It needs just to be on my side of the bed, so the ones with skirts/tapes etc might not work? I’d like one that is cotton, has a quick heat up time, automatic shut off and is like a quilted mattress protector (rather than fleece or whatever). And is safe/good quality etc.
I found this blanket which looked perfect and was recommended in an Independent feature but it has a skirt so presumably won’t work just on one side of the bed... Confused Help!

This thread is old now so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but if you’ve landed here looking for electric blankets, we’ve recently updated our best electric blanket page with loads of great options that have been tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

If you kinky want to heat one side of the bed (I'm assuming you have a double or king) then look for dual control. That's what I have, but it's just a bog standard electric blanket.

MrsPresley · 16/12/2019 20:50

Sorry! Only not kinky!!

TeapotCollection · 16/12/2019 20:53

We have this Slumberdown Electric Blanket - King size
www.argos.co.uk/product/7196986
I found it after lots of research and it's great. Very easy to use and heats up quick.
It's the same price as your single and my husband just doesn't turn his side on.

Justyou · 16/12/2019 21:01

I’ve got a heated throw which is amazing I LOVE it. It’s the same make and controls as the one above but I use it to warm my side then sometimes have it over me but usually I don’t need it once it’s warmed up the bed

fruitpastille · 16/12/2019 21:02

I've got that same brand but the fleece electric blanket. I love it. On the highest setting it heats while I brush my teeth and it's safe to leave on while you are in bed on the low settings. You can choose automatic shut off after 1 hour or 9 hours. It's dual control so across the whole bed but dh doesn't plug his side in. He does get a bit annoyed by the bit of plastic socket on the edge of his side of the bed though. I use it pretty much every night November-March and sometimes more!

This electric blanket thing obviously has hidden benefits Xmas Wink
On a more serious note, that makes complete sense about the dual control, thank you for explaining to a complete novice - am even more excited now!

Hmmm, the Slumberdown one sounds good - and now I want a heated throw as well!

I want a kinky one!
Mine is just an old boring one, no kink and no auto shut off but I love it.

Wallywobbles · 16/12/2019 21:18

Mine has dual control each side of bed can be on off or different temps. Auto shut off after 1,3,6,9 hours

Best sleep aide EVER

ZacharyQuack · 16/12/2019 21:38

You need to get a dual control one with a skirt or tuck in bit just like a fitted sheet. This will keep it fitted snuggly to the mattress so it doesn't move around and become lumpy.

wineoclockthanks · 16/12/2019 21:41

Lidl's had these in last week. Didn't look at the larger sizes but the Single was £14.99.

ClientListQueen · 16/12/2019 21:42

I also have the heated throw above and love it. I use it over my duvet sometimes before I go to sleep

TonTonMacoute · 16/12/2019 23:31

We've got a dual control one, DH's side has never even been plugged in Grin

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 16/12/2019 23:56

We have the dual control one too. My side will be on maximum and DH won’t have switched it on. It’s the best present I’ve ever been given. Apart from my heated throw. That comes a close second Xmas Grin

36degrees · 17/12/2019 00:07

We have a dual control one with smartplugs. We can switch it on from downstairs before we go up to bed, put it on a timer, and even switch it off from the bus if we realise it's still on by accident.

Tuliptulip · 17/12/2019 01:56

I have a very reluctant DP who is suspicious that I will contaminate his side of the bed with my warmth. I can totally see him not ever switching it on - though he is quite partial to a smart plug Xmas Hmm Xmas Smile
