Is it true that if you are at the bottom of a well that you can see the stars? I remember my Dad telling me that when I was tiny.

It has nothing to do with day and night OP! It’s to do with its orbit and the fact that it is a new moon.

Well yes it will be a moonless sky in Australia. Crescent moons are the opposite flipped left-right in the sky as well.
