Does anyone else always get the beer fear?

Every time I have a work Christmas do, I get the beer fear the next day. I don’t know why? DH said I was ‘happy drunk’ when I got home, but still I worry I’ve said something inappropriate and I will be the gossip of the office every single time!

Is it just me?

I think this is normal

Tarriance · 15/12/2019 08:42

Yes, I always get this after work dos too.

MissBehaving1000 · 15/12/2019 08:56

Not just after Christmas do's but any occasion where I've over done it!
Beer Fear is real...Grin

Shortbreadbaby · 15/12/2019 08:58

Even if I’ve had a few drinks at home with DH I wake up terrified of what I’ve said.

TheTeethingPoo · 15/12/2019 09:02

Oh thank god! The beer fear does have its way of scaring you out of a job Grin

Shortbread that’s hilarious. I would hate to get the beer fear with DH, I would never drink again.

Just console yourself with the fact that everyone else was equally drunk

Day two of the beer fear here! I didn’t even have that much Crown Blush

Probably won’t subside until Monday evening when I know I haven’t been fired Hmm

Daisydoola · 15/12/2019 09:06

Sounds like you've got Hangxiety.

It'll be okay by Monday

TheTeethingPoo · 15/12/2019 09:08

Should have added.... I’m on maternity leave so will just have to wait and see what messages I get on Monday Xmas Blush

ShirazSavedMySanity · 15/12/2019 09:12

Booze demons here too after last nights works party.

gamerwidow · 15/12/2019 09:14

Yes always it’s part of the reason I don’t really drink much these days. They’re horrible but they alway pass and I can’t of anytime by fears actually turned out to be true.

zsazsajuju · 15/12/2019 09:16

Drink depression. It’s apparently a real thing caused by depletion of b vitamins by your body as it removes the alcohol.

BigFatLiar · 15/12/2019 09:20

Already had a thread on parties, people get drunk and things happen, nobody really cares that much. Tomorrow we all go back to normality and pretend it didn't happen. Just hope you didn't do anything too outrageous and if you did nobody found out (other than those involved). (Some years ago a girl in the office was regretting that she was wasted at the party, bigger regret later when she found out she was pregnant).

littlemissalwaystired · 15/12/2019 09:20

Yes I've had this! Bad for 2 days, will probably be on and off today until I go back to work tomorrow! I have visions of walking in and everyone just laughing/being annoyedBlush in reality I'm sure I did nothing worse than anyone else did. Every year I tell myself it'll be different and every year's the sameHmm

peachypetite · 15/12/2019 09:20

Mine was on Thursday and I still don’t feel 100%. Going out for lunch with friends today but need to pace myself. Hangovers are just so much worse than they used to be.

tequilasunrises · 15/12/2019 09:20

Yep everytime I drink not just work events!

BlueSwathesChoose · 15/12/2019 09:21

Yes, and this is why I never drink at work dos (or much at all now either given I finally realised booze was not doing me any favours).

Alcohol is a depressant and there is a terrific book by William Porter called Alcohol Explianed that explains what you are experiencing.

MindYours · 15/12/2019 09:23

My work do is next Friday and I'm driving.

It'll be a nice change to not waste a whole weekend losing sleep over worrying and cringing myself into the next dimension.

Stillfunny · 15/12/2019 09:27

It is a well known side effect of alcohol. Referred to as " being in The Horrors ".
Sometimes my sister and I would wind each other up by suggesting that the behaviour the night before was outrageous
Resulting in frantic attempts to recall any incidents.
Xmas GrinGin

Cockadoodledooo · 15/12/2019 09:33

Not any more as I can't drink now. I do find it v funny watching my colleagues getting pissed though Grin
I did get it in the past, usually woke hangover free much to dh's disgust, but the fear would kick in and I'd have to wallow in bed for the day anyway. I have pretty bad social anxiety at the best of times so would drink to help me get through that, and then end up feeling more anxious at the thought I'd said/done something stupid/embarrassing. Vicious circle.
My immediate colleagues are all aware of my health issues that mean I don't drink now, but for anyone I don't care to explain to I always offer to drive.

Dollywilde · 15/12/2019 09:36

I did my work party sober on Thursday without anyone realising (newly pregnant! Snuck in alcohol free Prosecco and swapped my drinks) and someone still told me I’d ‘looked like enjoyed myself Wink’ on Friday morning! I congratulated myself on passing as drunk but then realised that’s really just what people say - it’s part of the next day camaraderie. Frankly I think everyone’s worrying far more about themselves than anyone else Smile

ProfFlitwick · 15/12/2019 09:37

This was me yesterday, didn't feel normal til 10.30pm. Ah well, it was a fun party

FainaSnowChild · 15/12/2019 09:40

I find beer fear so deeply unpleasant , and usually combined with pounding heart in the early hours, that I strictly control what I drink. I find new world wines much much worse than European for this, incidentally. Something to do with manufacture methods and additives used. I only drink European wine.

Betterbegoing · 15/12/2019 09:44

I normally get it every single time after drinking, even if I was just tipsy and remember everything I said and did completely clearly, I still get crippling beer fear the next day, no matter who I’m with.
Weirdly, I didn’t yesterday following my work Christmas do on Friday, but I’m not sure why, I managed to tip a whole glass of gin on myself (lucky it didn’t really get my clothes but I did need to dry my shoes under the hand dryer 😂) and did a lovely run and jump into the arms of a colleague, at his request I might add. To be honest, we were all pissed and I bet everyone at yours was too. It’s all just fun and games 😊
