Can I ask silly questions about Echo Dot?

I got an Echo Dot for my mum. She likes to listen to music and she could have this upstairs.

Can I connect it to my Prime account, so she doesn't have to pay?

Do I need to buy her separate speakers or is it enough in itself?

Was this a terrible gift?!

You can connect to your account, then you will have ‘control’ through the app on your phone- so you can enable ‘skills’.
It has built in speaker.

I don't really understand the prime account thing (my partner has it but I jsut signed up to prime music anyway when I got the dot) but it doesn't need speakers. I'm loving have mine in the bedroom, it's basically a voice controlled digital radio and alarm clock for £22. I listen to the radio a lot and so nice to have it on on the morning when I get ready.

Does the app connect through to the main amazon account or is it separate? Just for the Echo?

It’s an alexa app.
You don’t need to use it loads, just for set up, but they release new skills regularly - eg trivia games etc, if you are interested.
But yes, digital radio / alarm clock/ set reminders etc all really easy.

Yo I can connect it to you account but put the app on your mums phone. Once it's set up, you don't really need to use the app you can tell it to do things through voice commands

It's automatically set up to notify you of impending deliveries, so you'll need to go in the alexa app and disable that unless you want her to know everything you buy
