Oh crap, I need a nativity outfit for DD(4)

Dress up church tomorrow at 10am.

Her dressing gown is a Paddington one, so I can't put her in that and chuck a tea towel over her head to make a Shepherd.

She can be any nativity character.
What can I cobble together from stuff that is already in the house?

Any fairly plan dress and a blue scarf dealers over her head for Mary?

Tights/leggings, a big white t shirt with cotton wool stuck on for a sheep?

Any light coloured dress with tinsel as a halo for an angel?

Fancy clothes with a cereal box crown covered in tin foil for a king??

BadnessInTheFolds · 14/12/2019 23:26

Anything pink+face paint for a pig??

BadnessInTheFolds · 14/12/2019 23:27

All in black + triangle ears made of card stuck on a head band for the stable cat?

Oatgroat · 14/12/2019 23:28

An plain white or brown short sleeved adults t shirt belted around the waist with a scarf and the tea towel headdress so she could be a shepherd, or tinsel twisted into a circle for an angel headdress, along with the long white t shirt?

longestlurkerever · 14/12/2019 23:29

If you are prepared to sacrifice a pillowcase this can be any kind of tunic - add teatowel for shepherd, tinsel halo and wings for angel, jangle of keys for innkeeper etc.

Sunshinegirl82 · 14/12/2019 23:29

Cut out a star from cardboard, cover in tin foil and stick it to the front of a white t-shirt?

Whit pillowcase with head and arm holes cut to make a dress, tinsel/tinfoil for a belt and halo?

longestlurkerever · 14/12/2019 23:30

Or even larger cardboard sandwich board style star.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 14/12/2019 23:31

Tinsel on head + White pillowcase = angel
Print out & colour animal face mask?

Would the Paddington dressing gown work turned inside out?

  1. Cut a hole in the top of a cheap white pillow case and cut up the sides.

Fasten with a belt or rope in the middle

Hold a stick and hold a toy sheep under an arm for a shepherd.

  1. If you have any coloured pillowcases going spare do the same but put a crown made out of cardboard on instead and lose the sheep. Ditto inn keeper.
  1. Wear beige and stick something to make a camels hump under the material at the back.
  1. Hairband with horns attached. Facepaint and black or brown clothes and a stuffed tights tail and you have an oxen, or a donkey if you make the horns ears and the clothes grey.

To add to the shepherd costume...

  1. Cut holes in a white pillow case for head and arms
  2. Get an adult’s plain T-shirt in another colour. Cut from the collar to the bottom to fashion a long waist coat
  3. Tie belt around waist
  4. Tea towel on head.

You are a creative bunch. Thank you. Some of this will work.

.......
Where would a pig fit into a nativity scene? :-)

RaindropsAndSnowdrops · 15/12/2019 00:54

Go to Asda/Sainsbury's/Home Bargains and buy one. Simples.

BadnessInTheFolds · 15/12/2019 08:36

@Bluerussian there were all sorts of animals in that stable Grin

Hope you got it sorted OP!

There was more than one lobster present at the birth of our Lord?!

We've cobbled together a passable Mary from an old swaddling blanket, a cut up breastfeeding top, and a muslin. DH has been roped into being the donkey; she's mounting and dismounting with startling athleticism for a heavily pregnant woman.

GummyGoddess · 15/12/2019 08:45

Perhaps you could weigh her down with a heavy doll up her top, slows her down and gives DH more exercise Grin

Bluerussian · 16/12/2019 21:46

Not pigs though. Also no shell fish or crustaceans (what they would have been doing swimming in a barn I don't know anyway). They were a Jewish family!

I suppose the inn keeper could have knocked up some bacon sarnies after the birth, smothered with sauce they wouldn't have noticed.

Anyway op I'm very glad you've managed to cobble together an outfit.
