Help: anything I can do to soothe eczema on DD's scalp?

DD, 8, has a couple of scabby and very itchy patches on her scalp and neck. Took her to the pharmacy today and pharmacist reckons it's eczema and advised GP to get a prescription. We'll call on Monday but it's really bothering her - I got small patches of eczema at a similar age and I remember how terribly itchy it was, but mine were on my feet and legs so it was easy to stick cream on. Is there anything I can do to help soothe it that I might have lying around the house?

I can get DH to run to the pharmacy again tomorrow if there's something over the counter that might help - and I am KICKING myself for not asking when we were actually in there, what an idiot - but it would be so good to help her just now.

an oatmeal bath helps to calm eczema down, so it might be worth getting her to lie back in the bath and support her head with your hand, or pour some of the liquid over her head?

Oats in a sock in the bath. Really soothing.

My son has terrible eczema and he uses E45 shampoo from Boots.

You can buy 1% hydrocortisone cream over the counter which will treat eczema just a bit tricky to apply. Need to part the hair and do your best to rub it in. Coconut oil also helps.

Coal tar shampoo is the only thing that helps my scalp eczema. Neutrogena T-Gel is the one I use. If you use it, be very careful not to get it in or near her eyes- it stings!

My DD also suffers and I just use a bit of hydrocortisone on it. I found that the Body Shop ginger shampoo really helps clear it up overall though.

Oilatum shampoo is good if they still make it.

I've got a bottle of T Gel and if I use it every day my hair starts falling out Shock admittedly the directions are to use it 2-3 times a week but I wasn't expecting it to be quite so potent.
