looking for advice from sewers who alter - loose coat hood!

I've got a wonderful coat, the hood however is too loose. When I google for tutorials for how to adjust a loose coat hood I get nothing relevant. The hood is attached by poppers, so one idea I had was to buy some more poppers, but I've never used poppers (snaps? I don't know what to call them!) and am scared to make a hole in the coat fabric.

Do you have ideas either for how to do this or for better search terms for google?

Solutions would depend on whether you wanted to still be able to remove it or not.

Snap fasteners are an easy fix. Easy to see on, just make sure you buy the right size.

You could try ‘Loops’ attached to hood to buttons on the coat. Use braid/binding etc. to match the colour of the coat and if possible sink the raw edges into the seam on the edge of the hood. Evenly spaced as well. Ensure there’s a ‘shank’ on the button to fit the loop under. It does depend how skilled you are at sewing but it’s quite straightforward though you would have a little bit of unpicking to do.maybe ask a pro to do it if you don’t feel confident. Good luck. 🙂

Thanks Whatnew, I had also been wondering that and decided I want to continue to be able to remove it. It' down and I don't need it on the warmer of the winter days.

Reggie, I like this idea... I'm going to have a look at the good and think it through.

Just a thought,OP. My local Morrisons have an instore dry cleaning shop which also does alterations, etc. I'd be inclined to ask there. We also have a Pride dry cleaning shop which does alterations, something similar to try?
