I want to go away for a few days in January, but where?

Following what will be a busy Christmas, I would love to go away for a few days but not sure where? Don't have enough time to go somewhere really warm, so thinking UK, or somewhere snowy.

Please inspire me with ideas. I'm open to anything.

Where are you based?

Caramel78 · 14/12/2019 10:55

UK - Edinburgh is fab at Christmas time. If you prefer the countryside then a cosy cottage somewhere like Northumberland or The Lake District would be lovely. Snowdonia would also be really nice.

If you fancy going abroad then anywhere in Scandinavia would be ideal (Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Copenhagen) and also Nuremberg in Germany is so Christmassy with lots of markets etc.

Based in south east.

Iceland! It's a little pricey but so worth it. We only did 4 days and it was enough 😊

midsomermurderess · 14/12/2019 11:19

Edinburgh is full of cheap plastic tat at Christmas time. I see it daily. What about the Lake District. It is stunning at this time of year.

MeowyChristmas · 14/12/2019 11:22

If you can go in really early January, Kings Day in Spain is brilliant.

GoldenPlatitudes · 14/12/2019 11:25

I went to Iceland in january and it was beautiful. Snow, fairylights, amazing hot chocolate....fecking expensive but worth it

ForalltheSaints · 14/12/2019 11:26

Paris or perhaps Ghent or Antwerp. Easy by train or by the Eurotunnel if you are taking a car.

ineedto · 14/12/2019 11:28

Ghent and Bruges, train between is 40min.

Milan or Rome.

Paris.

Strasbourg.

Done all January and February, no more than 3nights and would go back to any in a heartbeat!

PurpleFrames · 14/12/2019 11:33

I went to Oslo this time of year- yes the weather is wet/cold but it's so beautiful.

Maneandfeathers · 14/12/2019 12:12

Poland? Krakow is lovely and very cheap

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/12/2019 12:23

Naples! Go see Pompei without the crowds!

gwilt · 14/12/2019 12:28

We went to Norwich in January this year. Beautiful and magical.

gwilt · 14/12/2019 12:28

I would recommend Bath for the same reasons.

Let skyscanner decide. Put your dates in and search everywhere from UK. We have had some amazing breaks this way.

DonPablo · 14/12/2019 12:57

We went to the antrim Coast in Feb. It was wild and wonderful. Quiet. We went to the giants causeway and were the only ones there. The whole coastline is phenomenal.

We stayed in Portstewart which was nice.

smemorata · 14/12/2019 12:59

We are going to Rome hopefully. I've never been at this time of year but heard it's not too crowded.

Overseasmom100 · 14/12/2019 13:05

London to see the lights/sales
The Lakes for lovely walks
Spa hotel to chill
York
Nottingham

bsc · 14/12/2019 13:07

Everywhere is so grim and cold! I would like to do this too but don't want somewhere even colder than UK!

Shoxfordian · 14/12/2019 13:11

Seville is really warm in January and not busy with lots of tourists

Ticklemeelmo · 14/12/2019 13:20

Slovenia, it's beautiful and snowy in January

SilverySurfer · 14/12/2019 13:48

Venice is fabulous in the winter without all the crowds and it's incredible.

RogueV · 14/12/2019 18:50

We are going to Berlin

Damnloginpopup · 15/12/2019 07:41

Cambodia

cherryblossomgin · 15/12/2019 07:48

Iceland is a 2hr flight, or the Cairngorms in Scotland.
