Used ordinary chocolate bar chunks for cookies - it all melted in the oven :(

Should I be using baking chocolate bar chunks instead of normal chocolate bar chunks for cookies (if I am not using chocolate chips)?

All chocolate will melt in the oven, surely? Let them cool on the try before trying to move them and they should be fine.

MustardScreams · 13/12/2019 21:59

How do you mean melted? Did the cookies spread?

GlowingR · 13/12/2019 22:04

The cookies literally look like plain cookies with nutella smeared on them - that kinda melted :/

Do you mean you wanted them to stay a bit "chunky", but they melted completely?

I think you have to use cooking chocolate and cook them quite low to keep the chunks a bit solid.

marmitemayonnaise · 13/12/2019 22:06

Cookie dough in the freezer 10 minutes before cooking!

lazylinguist · 13/12/2019 22:06

Did you put the chocolate chunks on top or mix them in properly with the dough? I use normal chocolate for mine and they melt but not like that.

Ginkypig · 13/12/2019 23:11

What do you mean by chunks?

All chocolate melts in heat but if you chop it small enough then it shouldn't spread too much.

When I make chocolate chip pancakes I use a small bar of green and blacks chocolate but I chop it up and it works fine.

DartmoorChef · 13/12/2019 23:14

How long did you bake them for? I use catering chocolate chips as they are harder and will stay in shape while the cookie bakes.

sproutsandparsnips · 13/12/2019 23:23

I think the point of cooking CBC chips is that they retain their shape whilst cooking. Having said that I think your cookies sound delicious.....

sproutsandparsnips · 13/12/2019 23:24

Chocolate chips, not CBC chips!

I always use ordinary chocolate broken into chunks for baking. I've never had a problem - obviously it melts but it sets again into chunks.
