NHS workers, how are we feeling this morning?

I feel quite tearful. Sat at my desk, feel like it's all a bit pointless. Feel very uncertain of the future of mental health services. I can't see how this will end well. My ward might shut as we have a few empty beds.

I don’t know. I’m worried, but there is a litle glimmer of hope that now Johnson is no longer in thrall to the ERG that he might actually deliver on some of his election promises. I think we may see quite a lot of cash thrown at us in the short term. Brexit will be ruinous though, in the medium term, unless he swerves it and goes for a Norway option.

IdiotInDisguise · 13/12/2019 09:43

Who said he is out of ERG?

TooStressyTooMessy · 13/12/2019 09:44

Pretty fucking miserable.

fairgame84 · 13/12/2019 09:45

Business as usual. I'm on a childrens ward.
We've increased our beds over the past 10 years. We just need some new equipment and staff but it's been like that since I started nursing in 2006.
All of our nursing staff are British, most of the doctors are non-EU and we need them. I'm worried about how any immigration changes will affect them.

Where I live there is a lot of Polish and Romanian families so Brexit might impact on our patient numbers.

KitKat1985 · 13/12/2019 09:48

Miserable. I work in acute dementia care and in the past 5 years the number of beds we have has been cut from 26 to 15. We now have frail confused patients being sent to hospital beds over 40 miles away from their families, or waiting days for an 'emergency' bed.

We have vacancies that we can't fill and are only functioning by using staff from abroad, which will get increasingly difficult post-brexit.

This will only get worse.

Who said he is out of ERG?

I didn’t say he was out of the ERG. I said he was no longer in thrall to the ERG.

He has his power now so he can take whatever self-serving approach he wishes to. At present this is likely to be playing Lord Bountiful.

Heartbroken

littlemissalwaystired · 13/12/2019 10:45

Wondering what on earth my job will look like in the future. I just can't imagine a world where I deliver someone's baby then charge them for it.

Beadyohfeedme · 13/12/2019 11:45

I'm wondering how what will happen to our service users, a lot of care leavers, dual diagnosis, most with no family or friends. Who will speak up for these people in the future?

You think.mental health services were any better under labour? I was redeployed twice in 12 months in 2005 due to cuts ( mental health) ,The mental health trust I worked for used to do ridiculous things with the funding it did receive ,such as refurbish units at a cost of £1,0000000 and then close them down less than a year later there is a lot wrong with the NHS but it's not just do lack of funding

roiseandjim · 13/12/2019 13:17

Excatly the same. Crack on as normal until any changes are made.

aintnothinbutagstring · 13/12/2019 13:30

My DH works for the NHS, him and quite a few of his colleagues voted for Boris 🤷 Given the landslide victory, I'm guessing a fair few NHS workers did vote tory.

partysong · 13/12/2019 13:40

There are always problems in the NHS - under all governments. Labour didn't do such a great job of it either.

I'm in mental health- our commissioners are very confident that additional funding is about to be agreed.

slartibarti · 13/12/2019 14:59

Relieved Grin.
Was dreading the thought of labour getting in and thinking they can sort the NHS out by throwing handfuls of cash at it.
Yes, we are struggling to cope with demand and patients are suffering but more funding won't solve that.
I've seen so much money wasted by continual "re-organizations" that don't work and overall inefficiency.
Major changes and hard choices have to be made.

FarFrom · 13/12/2019 15:05

Demoralised, angry and very sad.
I cant imagine what worse is going to look like.
