What's the story of your first period?

Ok. There's probably a weird period troll, apologies if I trigger them, but I'm drinking wine while watching feminist Netflix comedians instead of the news and I was just remined of my first period.

It was years after my parents divorced. I was on a road trip across Europe with my gipsy nomadic father and his new wife, who I did not like. We'd stopped for petrol and I'd gone to the loo. I had to ask my father to help me and he was well meaning and we managed. Once we got to the family location there was a phone and i was expected to ring my mum, which i did. I remember that conversation being a let down.

It's an important moment in a young girl/ woman's life. What are your stories?

It really wasn't important for me, it was just a bodily function

But I do think people might be reluctant to post here, it does seem like fodder for perverts im afraid (I don't think you're a troll, I just think it could go wrong)

Ps what you watching? Recommend anything?

RJnomore1 · 12/12/2019 20:34

Story?

What?

MonstranceClock · 12/12/2019 20:36

Why would anyone remember their first period? That’s weird.

Xmas Biscuit
Pyjamaface · 12/12/2019 20:38

I don't see it as an important moment in my life Confused

harper30 · 12/12/2019 20:38

Jessica Yaniv?

Morgan12 · 12/12/2019 20:38

I don't actually remember. Although I do remember phoning my mum at work to tell her.

dudsville · 12/12/2019 20:39

I'm currently watching Michelle Wolf "Joke show", where I got the period idea. I was previously watching a Tiffany Haddish's net special.

I don't understand trolls and lack the finesse to sort them, but I think it's a shame that it limits us here, but i guess what i was thinking is that, like you, it wasn't momentous. But isn't it, really?

I remember mine coz it was Boxing Day and I was absolutely ravenous. Plus my mum made a big fuss of it and i really resented her for it coz I just wanted to get on and do normal things.

MashedSpud · 12/12/2019 20:42

@harper30 I was thinking the same. 😂🤣

redexpat · 12/12/2019 20:43

My Mum sang 'oooooooh bodyfo-orm, body formed for youuuuuuu' in full operatic soprano mode. I'll never forget that!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/12/2019 20:44

I would strongly recommend that posters don't share, as OPsaod there's some very odd people about.

I remember I went the loo and there it was..

upaladderagain · 12/12/2019 20:45

I was on holiday, sharing a bed with my little sister, and my brother also in the room. Woke up one morning in a puddle of blood, thinking I was dying, never having been told anything about periods. I managed to send dsis and dbro out of the room to spare them the trauma and change pjs before finding my mum and sobbing in terror. It was one of the worst shocks of my life.

dudsville · 12/12/2019 20:54

I will now Google Jessica yaniv!

I don't get it?

Dinosforall · 12/12/2019 20:58

It seems to be a really big deal in the US, not so much here (maybe I just read too much Judy Bloom)

selmabear · 12/12/2019 20:58

Remember mine 😂 I was in A&E after dislocating my knee. Couldn't go to the toilet by myself so mum had to come with me to help me pull my pants and knickers down and there was blood everywhere and I screamed! Might have been a slight overreaction and dramatics but with the stress of that particular day starting my period was just the cherry on top. My screams were heard by nurses who came to investigate and went to get sanitary towels 🤦‍♀️

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 12/12/2019 21:02

My nan phoned my dad at work - and he worked in a warehouse - and announced 'your daughter is a woman'.

Dad came home and sheepishly handed me a box of Milk Tray. I'm not sure who was more embarrassed.

PenOrPencil · 12/12/2019 21:04

I was fine, but my stupid little brother told his (and my former) primary school teacher that I was pregnant. The teacher actually phoned my mum!

Heismyopendoor · 12/12/2019 21:04

Mine happened at school. My mum sadly hadn’t talked to me about it at all, I was only 11. I went to the school receptionist and she got me a towel and offered to show me what to do. I remember lying and saying it wasn’t the first time and I just was caught off guard. She also offered to phone my mum, I remember wanting the ground to swallow me up and I swiftly declined that too.

I didn’t really know how to tell my mum and didn’t mention it until she noticed whilst doing the laundry. 😂 ahh well.

Holymolymackerel · 12/12/2019 21:06

At school, went for a wee and there it was. Put on a pad from my stash in my school bag. I was 13.

Craftycorvid · 12/12/2019 21:09

Happened at school mid-lesson! Blush and I couldn’t face trying to leave the room in case it was, er, obvious!

I knew when I’d had my last one, too. Not to go all woo about it but I just ‘knew’. It was quite poignant.

eBooksAreBooks · 12/12/2019 21:15

Ok. There's probably a weird period troll

There is definitely a "weird period troll"
