Do you know how to overtake another vehicle on the road?

I see people tailgating but often when the road is dry, clear and straight they don’t overtake and I’m beginning to wonder if they don’t know how?

Or the car doesn't have the power to accelerate at speed.

I know how too but very rarely do because I know my car needs a very big clear gap to safely do so. I never tailgate though.

My previous cars have been a bit underpowered so require being geared down and getting the timing right to pass in time before getting to a hazard. Often it's not worth the hazard for the benefits. I've not had the acceleration power to do it spontaneously.

My county has a lot of blind summits and bends so straight sections good for passing safely are thin on the ground.

I learned to drive in an urban area so didn't get instructed through overtaking, and had a couple of hairy moments the first couple of times I tried it, so it's a manouver I'm not flippant about.
