Stiff bedding/duvet cover how can I soften up?

Just bought a lovely douvet cover/pillow cases have washed and used fabric condition but still bit stiff. Just hung out to dry. Any ideas on how to soften? Would a tumble dry help

I googled and most advice says use cup ful of baking soda then on the rinse vycle lower temp and use vinegar.

Im going to re wash with baking soda....is baking powder the same??

Baking soda and powder are the same, just different names (US & UK names)
