Is the world a scarier place now than the recent past?

I'm mid 30s. I'm not sure if having DCs and being more aware of the world makes you more worried about the state of affairs, or if the workd is genuinely more terrifying now.

Tbf I've been watching too much dystopia recently which has made me paranoid 😁

I worry about climate change, civil unrest, politics.

I've noticed a big change in crime, which nobody reports because of the lack of police services. There's county lines activity in nearly all the small market towns now, and the police are powerless to do anything about it.

I am currently looking to move to a detached property far, far away from people. Smile

Some people have always worried to a greater or lesser extent about everything from war to famine to dictatorship to natural disaster to economic disaster and so on. Some people are more risk averse than others and some more prone to catastrophising generally and I largely suspect that your view of terror is heavily based on your temperament.

I personally worry about very little, it just doesn’t really register. I don’t think anything happening right now is truly terrifying and by the time climate change really kicks in I’ll be dead, so it isn’t something I need worry about.

Well, there was the threat of atomic war and IRA terrorism - both of which seemed much more present than even the threat of terrorism today. And there was the hole in the ozone layer, acid rain and the fear of the imminent ice age. And then Chernobyl...

No-I don't think it's more dangerous. We just live in an era of rolling news, and these stories are constantly at the forefront of our consciousness as a result.

And, of course, the three day week, load-shedding, endless strikes and needing an IMF bailout - not to mention Rivers of Blood and the cricket test: so I don't even think the politics we have now are worse.

I feel a bit better now. Thanks 🙂
