Hi just hoping for some insight from other parents of 6 ish year olds.
Thyroid problems run in my family and my 6 year old DS had a blood test about a year ago which revealed he had raised antibodies but only slightly therefore most probably will have autoimmune underactive thyroid.
We have been having a few issues with his behaviour at home and not sure if it's a red flag for thyroid disease becoming more apparent or just general 6 year old behaviour. I feel torn whether to put him through another blood test or to ride it out a bit longer!
He is very moody at times and mopes around the house. If I ask him to do anything he huffs and rolls his eyes. He has big bags under his eyes when he has had plenty of sleep. He gets very emotional and cross about things, I can calm him down but it's like a rollercoaster being at home with him. If I need him to do anything like put his shoes on for school I have to ask about 4 times for him to actually go and do it. He can be so sweet and lovely then he can be so moody and rude. We are calm with him and he goes on the stairs for a timeout when hes bad. His behaviour at school is good and he is doing well with reading etc. His teacher at school said at parents evening that he was such a happy boy so I know hes ok on that front.
I am paranoid by nature and sometimes read into things too much so it's hard to tell whether I need to push for another blood test. My GP is pretty useless as far as thyroid is concerned from their point of view if you're not overweight and if you're functioning to a point then you're ok.
