I think I have a corn and I can barely walk (pic)

It’s been getting progressively worse for weeks. I’m too embarrassed to show the GP as I know I should have dealt with it ages ago. It is so so painful today.

Is it actually a corn? Is there any home care I can do or is it beyond that?

I'm not sure. My brother had something similar on the top of his toe and it was an infected ingrown hair. I can imagine how painful it is though. It must be rubbing against the top of your shoe when you walk too. I think you should go the gp. Sorry I'm not too helpful

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 08/12/2019 08:24

Put a plaster on it and Wear soft shoes/trainers and wait for it yo heal?

Could just be that you have been wearing shoes too tight/hard

Gruzinkerbell1 · 08/12/2019 08:25

It does look like a corn, and a painful one at that!

Have you started wearing new shoes? Or started a new hobby like running? If you can narrow down the cause and stop doing it (wearing shoes that rub for instance), it should start to get better on its own. Corn pads will help you as it heals.

What is the red thing in the background?

Stooshie8 · 08/12/2019 08:28

I didn't think corns had broken skin? Might be something else.

kshaw · 08/12/2019 08:32

Corn plasters and the cushions work a treat. It looks like a bad corn to me

eavers · 08/12/2019 08:32

Whats the red lump to the left of it?

babbi · 08/12/2019 08:33

@MarleneandBoycie. Think the red thing is another tie with the nail painted red .... it took me a good squint to work it out !!

OP looks like a corn that has rubbed off the hard skin , bled and is now slightly infected ...
wrap in a cushioned plaster and avoid footwear that rubs on it for now

babbi · 08/12/2019 08:33

** another toe

stophuggingme · 08/12/2019 08:34

The red lump is the OP painted toenail

ivykaty44 · 08/12/2019 08:34

Visit a chiropodist and they will treat it for you, will cost £££ but it’s better than the alternative

horrayforharoldlloyd · 08/12/2019 08:34

I think the red thing is a painted toenail rather than a lump

Bluesheep8 · 08/12/2019 08:38

GP op. Also, please please don't use those corn plasters with the felt circle. They have a harsh chemical in them and if not positioned correctly will attack and destroy healthy skin. I got an infection from using one and had to have antibiotics. GP said they shouldn't be on sale and the chemical should only be used/applied by an expert.

3drawercinemaclub · 08/12/2019 08:38

Yes is a painted toenail

I wear heels all the time, hence the corn. My feet are an absolute mess but they hurt even more when I wear flat shoes as I wear heels so much I think I’ve fucked my arches. Not sure how I’m even going to wear any shoes to work tomorrow.

I’ve tried blister plasters today so I could go to the shop and even wrapped in three of them I couldn’t get my shoes (flats) on

Oh bloody hell nails are gruesome, freaks me out
Also the regrowth in that thumbnail. Sorry no help but I am well skeeved.

cultmaskid · 08/12/2019 08:52

Z@MarleneandBoycie

How cruel of you to say that about her nails

She asked about a corn not if you liked her nails

MLMsuperfan · 08/12/2019 08:53

GP is not going to judge you for not going earlier and even if they do it's still worth it to get treated.

Skyejuly · 08/12/2019 08:55

Ouch. Yes I used corn plasters but they slipped around and just destroyed healthy skin.

DonPablo · 08/12/2019 08:57

Go and get seen today at a walk in centre. They won't judge, just sort it out!

That looks so bloody sore. You poor thing.

3drawercinemaclub · 08/12/2019 09:00

@DonPablo, I work at the walk in centre, way too embarrassed to go there!

I was thinking I could just give it a really long soak in some warm salt water, wrap it up well and find my most comfy shoes to wear tomorrow. Or borrow some crutches and say I hurt my ankle so I don’t have to wear shoes tomorrow!

The GP is not going to care less than you have left it. Are you embarrassed because you left it or because of what it is? Really not worth being embarrassed about!

Money in the bank for the Chiropodist. And yes it is a job for a Chiropodist not a GP. Go!

ivykaty44 · 08/12/2019 09:46

Chiropodist will be used to far worse than that, you’ll come out walking on air after treatment
