Need help sourcing a king outfit that doesn’t look like a costume!

Rather random... but my 3 year old is a king in the nativity. However he absolutely will not wear the costume. He is fine about the crown, but the rest of it he won’t put on. He has always hated dressing up and wants to just wear his own clothes.

I am therefore trying to source some sort of t-shirt or top that makes him look like a king, but that he doesn’t see as a”costume”! Any suggestions of something I can buy (or make)?

Just regal purple or red t shirt ? If he’s not going to wear a cloak then I would leave it at that ( would he wear a happy potter or superhero cape ? They’d do 😂)

Will be be a Saudi king?
Dressing gown + check tea towel + crown.
He can wear his own clothes under.

Would he wear a suit? I imagine that’s what most kings wear!

Saltdoughmuncher · 06/12/2019 13:47

He won’t wear anything that he believes is a costume! So it’s got to be something I can pass off as normal clothes in the morning and send him wearing it.

I so want to buy a personalised t-shirting saying “I’m meant to be a king but won’t wear the costume!”

Would something like this work? If it’s any comfort DS1 had full on tantrums if asked to dress up until sometime in Reception...he’s still not a fan but it is possible now.

@DelurkingAJ yes I think he would wear that as he would just see it as a normal top!

Thanks!

Prince Charles has been looking for one of these for decades. He might be able to assist.

Plain black trousers and a red or purple t shirt would do fine. I understand your predicament. I've a child who was the same when it came to costumes. Thankfully he doesn't have to wear them now.
