Should I give DS new phone or should I keep it?

DS smashed his phone a while ago. It was my old phone. Screen cracked too badly to use. It was sim only

I have a huawei p20 that's 12 months old. Works perfectly. Small crack at bottom.

I bought DS a Samsung S9 on contract in black Friday deal for his birthday.

My friends just said I'm mad to give him it as he smashed the old one so badly

She thinks I should keep the S9.

Give him my p20

And buy him something else for his main birthday present.

I cant really afford an extra tenner a month on insurance.
Only reason I got the S9 is cause it was a good deal.

So should I give him the phone for his birthday?

Who would get the most pleasure from it? Give it to him on condition it stays in a proper case with a glass screen protector.

Yanbu, you bought it for him as his birthday gift. If he breaks this one he doesn't get a new one (or gets a cheap old one simply for texts and calls if you need it to keep in contact with him). As a one off/ just replacing his old one would be different but I think it's fine as it's for his birthday.

Winterdaysarehere · 05/12/2019 16:56

Age of DS?

OctoberLovers · 05/12/2019 16:57

You say you cant afford an extra tenner for insurance.

But you are going to give him a phone on contract, where he could very easily run up very high charges

sanityisamyth · 05/12/2019 16:58

How did he break the phone? Was it deliberate?

autumnboys · 05/12/2019 17:00

Did he smash it deliberately, or accidentally?

TreeMenDos · 05/12/2019 17:02

He can't run up high charges. I've selected no extra allowance so he can't go over his allowance. It simply won't allow him to make calls.

I've never had insurance on any phone Blush

He is 15 but has a history of being clumsy

Echoing the how did he break it.
If yours already has a small crack and he’s prone to dropping things it’ll shatter quicker than an intact screen. You can also get some tough phone cases.. they aren’t all the prettiest.. and tempered screen protectors help too.
But obviously he wouldn’t get it from me if he’d chucked the other phone in a huff n smashed it, if however he’d fell/tripped/accidentally dropped it I’d consider it. But I’d be getting a decent case etc for him too.

(Also double check the contracts capped if you’re giving him the sim)

comfysocks · 05/12/2019 17:06

As he is 15 I would give him the new phone

exLtEveDallas · 05/12/2019 17:08

Give him the phone in a good rubber case and a screen protector. You bought it as a present for him, you should give it him.

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 05/12/2019 18:03

You call him clumsy, but you managed to crack your screen... Buy a glass protector screen from amazon for the phone.
