Did you keep any of your New Year’s resolutions?

Last month of the year! I have a reminder on my phone that tells me my NY resolutions each month and has just popped up for the last time in 2019. Mine were...

  1. go swimming more - hahahahahaha, did not manage that at all 🤦‍♀️ It’s going on next year’s list
  2. write a book - I actually made a bit of progress with that, so while it hasn’t happened I’m quite pleased because it’s been an ambition for about 10 years and I’ve finally started
  3. own at least 5 bras that actually fit - I hate bra shopping- managed this one Grin (although one of them’s losing shape already Hmm )
  4. eat together as a family more - we’re sort of managing this. Not the every Sunday lovely lunchtime roast I envisaged though.

How has everyone else got on?

I have no idea if I even made any! If I did, I’ve failed. I’m a wreck right now, physically and mentally! Making changes already though.

I like your resolutions though!

HowToBeAWoman · 01/12/2019 09:02

Sadly, no. In fact, in my entire 40+ years of life I’ve only ever kept two of my resolutions.

Have a baby
Give up smoking

I promised myself I’d get fit and lose weight in 2019. I’ve put on half a stone since January Confused. I’m making that resolution again for 2020. I like the idea of monthly reminders.

In 2018 I made a very unambitious running goal (menopausal, achey, late forties) - but injury stopped that three months in. However I rehabbed the injury, carried on exercising, built a solid base fitness and I have had a really fantastic 2019 taking up two new sports, running and swimming and gymning regularly and currently getting fit for skiing in the New year. So my new year resolution did kind of work!

I went vegan after being veggie for ages. I lasted 9 months but am back to eating some dairy and eggs.

Have kept up my gym habit which was a resolution I made in 2017 and am glad I have. I go at least 4 times a week and am happier for it.

Eva and Travelling you are clearly an example to the rest of us Grin

TBH I have only managed it because I enjoy it. Everything else I have ever resolved to do has failed.

ISawyouinTescoyesterday · 01/12/2019 15:24

I never make them. I think it's better to create a goal to achieve throughout the year then make promises on New Year's Eve you know you won't keep.

ohdearmymistake · 01/12/2019 15:24

The only one I have ever managed to keep was the one I decided not to bother making any more.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 01/12/2019 16:18

I successfully gave up smoking and I have limited my spending habits to the point of walking around a shop backwards and forwards to get the bag /put the bag back. In the end I put the bag back and I could totally afford it too. So proud Halo.

Justtheoneplease · 01/12/2019 16:29

Yep, gave up smoking. Best thing I've ever done. Just stopped New years day 2017, not had one since. Mind you gained a shit load of weight 😯
Guess this year's resolution will be??? 😉
