Boris Johnson on single mothers and Nigerians

Deathgrip · 28/11/2019 08:53

Two news stories this morning about former Boris columns:

Saying Blairites had “an almost Nigerian interest in money and gadgets of all kinds”
www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/28/johnson-accused-of-racial-stereotyping-with-view-on-nigerians

And where to even start on the single mothers piece? It’s actually appalling:

  • something needs to be done to “restore women’s desire to be married”
  • a man is “feeble” if he can’t “take control of his woman”
  • children of single mothers are “ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate”

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/election-boris-johnson-articles-women-women-journalist-spectator-labour-a9221036.html

Quite the angle for a man fathering children outside of marriage and leaving his wife.

I don’t understand how people can defend him at this point.

Nothing surprises me at this point. Vile man

anonnancy · 28/11/2019 09:26

Can't say I'm surprised. He is awful.

I did forward the article onto my other half though as we aren't married and expecting our first child.

The reason I am not married isn't due to lack of desire, Boris! 😂 I'm just waiting for my man to pop the question!

Deathgrip · 28/11/2019 09:35

This is what I just said to DH.

Mumsnet is just flooded with stories men desperate to marry and have children in wedlock, and women who have no interest in any of that.... right?

I'm sure Laura Kuenssberg will pronounce it some kind of youthful journalistic indiscretion and attempt to move the whole BBC on from it.

Hopefully Emily Maitliss will say, hang on, if he's publicly raised an issue around illegitimacy, we're entitled to question him on it - he opened the door.

As for the 'Nigerian' remark - hope he gets hammered for it. Johnson is such a racist arsehole.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 28/11/2019 09:36

He’s vile. Racist, misogynistic and stupid.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 28/11/2019 09:37

And doesn’t he have illegitimate kids himself? Do we even know how many kids he has?

Deathgrip · 28/11/2019 09:46

I’ve seen so many people doing ostrich impressions over his beliefs. How can anyone want this man running the country?

Not to mention this awful display - when he meets people who don’t like his policies he just lies about them so they’ll shut up. “I’ll have to check that” - no you don’t, you know you’re not going to pay nurse tuition fees! “I’ll make sure we do that” - what a liar. Just sitting saying “hmm” as a nurse describes that many of her cohort can’t survive financially and have no incentive to complete their training. Just awful.

The Nigerian remark is absolutely disgusting and the flippant usage of racist stereotypes to get a laugh is classic Boris. This is the least surprising of all.

At least five, one the result of an affair, the other four to his wife before he left her for another woman (I guess she’s a single mother now unless she’s remarried) and rumours of a sixth.

Heseltine stood up the other day and asked people to vote Liberal or independent. This from a long term, respected Tory.. Johnson is the worst and most dangerous PM in living memory. He is a nasty, lying, incompetent, self seeking egomaniac who is totally unfit for high office and the last person who has the right to discuss any aspect of marriage.
However, no matter what he does and whatever he says he comes out of the mire smelling of roses as so many of the public seem to be hypnotised into ignoring all of the evidence as it is just “Boris”. For goodness sake wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late. I blame the press and media who revel in the power they have to persuade the masses with eye catching headlines. It’s a tactic that Johnson uses from his journalist experience So we get the continual mantras “let’s get Brexit done” etc.etc. Just read the headlines it will save you all a lot of trouble. I weep, I cry and will vote for anyone but him.

anacarol · 28/11/2019 12:21

I would like to know what his new girlfriends thinks about this statements...as she's the daughter of a single mother herself.

Hereismyreply · 28/11/2019 23:30

Can you imagine if Corbyn had said these things and behaved as Johnson has behaved? We would never hear the last of it in the media. And I say this as someone who is no great fan of Corbyn, but the blatant double standards in treatment of the two leaders in the media really winds me up.

Deathgrip · 29/11/2019 06:34

Absolutely agree. I’m seeing lots of Tory voters claiming it’s wrong to consider this because it was 25 years ago, while simultaneously misrepresenting Corbyn’s actions in the 80s as if the media interpretation is fact, despite the evidence.

I’ve never been a particular fan of Corbyn either, I wouldn’t have voted for him in the leadership election if I had been a member, but if you condemn the tories’ actions over the last decade you’re branded an unthinking Corbynista who thinks he’s the messiah. It apparently can’t be true that you believe Labour to be the best option right now, when this is the alternative.

The hypocrisy is overwhelming.

SimonJT · 29/11/2019 06:37

Sadly not surprised, but then he calls me a tank-topped bum boy.

Deathgrip · 29/11/2019 06:51

Indeed - he’s an odious man.

Unfortunately some people see these views as a positive quality in a prime minister.

OP posts:
AShaveAndAHarecutHalfPrice · 29/11/2019 10:25

Why is this man popular? Why are the Tories ahead in all polls?

DullPortraits · 29/11/2019 10:30

He will still win the election because -Jeremy corbyn 🤷‍♀️

Deathgrip · 29/11/2019 10:50

Arguing that Johnson is a better option than Corbyn is beyond comprehension at this point.

Venger · 29/11/2019 10:57

I doubt he has the level of respect for her that would make him even consider her thoughts about it.

I’m seeing lots of Tory voters claiming it’s wrong to consider this because it was 25 years ago, while simultaneously misrepresenting Corbyn’s actions in the 80s

Shrodinger's history.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/11/2019 12:53

No matter what your opinion is of Corbyn.

He would never make these sort of comments.

I am admittedly a Labour supporter but I genuinely wonder about Tory voters - do they really think the country has been in a good state under their recent leadership? Do they really think Boris Johnson will improve the UK? Or is it just this "anyone but Corbyn" mentality.

ScreamingBeans · 29/11/2019 13:04

He's also made derogatory comments about working class men .

So many people he considers useful idiots, for whom he has nothing but contempt, will line up to vote for him and then tug their forelocks gratefully when he shafts them.

bibliomania · 29/11/2019 13:09

something needs to be done to “restore women’s desire to be married”

As a single mother myself, that's hilarious. What's wrong with the strategy of "being nice to be married to", eh Boris?

fussychica · 29/11/2019 13:22

The man is a dangerous buffoon. Dangerous because idiots will still vote for him regardless of the lies he tells, terrible statements he make etc. Lots of people think he's a "character" and he can get things doneConfused. Sad to find so many people fall for his "charms".

skippy67 · 29/11/2019 14:48

And still, people will say "that's just Boris"...ugh!

ForalltheSaints · 29/11/2019 18:24

Perfectly legitimate to question him about single mothers- how many women are now single mothers with children by him?

chomalungma · 29/11/2019 19:22

Boris doesn't give a shit about the working class or single parents. He cares about Boris.
