Hole in skirt after first wash

Hi,

I bought a skirt from New Look last week which I LOVE.

Washed it for the first time (as per the wash instructions) and it's now got a massive hole where the stitching has come apart.

I don't have the receipt and it's been worn and washed. They won't accept a return will they?

Do you have a bank statement or credit card statement with the transaction on?

GiveHerHellFromUs · 26/11/2019 07:56

Good point! I do, yes.

In fact, I have apps where you collect points when you upload receipts so may even have a picture of the receipt.

I just didn't know whether they'd not accept it back because I've worn and washed it, but as I was as per instructions, surely it's a faulty item?

I've had similar with Boden (dress shrank in the wash) and they just replaced it. Idk about new look but you might as well try.

If it's a faulty item you should be entitled to a refund or at least an exchange. Ask to see a manager if the assistant won't help you.

I agree, it is faulty. Nothing should tear after a single wash. Ask for an exchange for another skirt (you love it anyway) as the one you have is faulty. They should do that for you.

It's faulty. Per EU regulations the onus to prove that the fault is with you and not the item lies on the seller for the first six months. So they'd have to be able to show that you'd done something wrong, and since it's stitching that's come undone that's not likely. So then you just have to prove that you bought it were you bought it. Receipt, or if it's branded NEW LOOK it's obv from them, or card statement, or whatever. Disclaimer: am assuming it is similar on that account as here in Sweden.

Ah amazing, thanks both.
I've messaged them via Facebook so at least if they say I can have an exchange I have the proof written down so won't need to argue in store (I'm rubbish with confrontation!)

I love the skirt so hopefully it was just unlucky and a replacement would be fine - especially as I asked DP for the same skirt in another colour for Xmas!
