Can I give the school money, instead of Christmas gifts for teachers?

The school are really struggling, with teachers buying a lot of classroom supplies for themselves. They've been great with dc1 so I'd like to get the class some supplies, but thinking a cash gift would be best so the teacher can choose what they need. Would this be allowed?

Ask them. Our school has sent out a letter with online payment details in case any parents want to make a donation. It is not specifically for Christmas, but I am sure they would be happy for a donation instead. Our school does make it clear how they are struggling financially like most schools as part of the parent consultation prior to school shutting early on Fridays.
