I had no chance of avoiding it, it bolted out a garden and I swerved but still hit it. Poor wee things back legs were broken and couldn’t move from the middle of the road.😥

Thankfully it was a quite quiet road at 7.20 am so I could direct traffic round him while waiting for the emergency vet. And I noticed a couple looking out their windows so I chapped them and it was their cat so thankfully they were reunited and that settled the cat down.

It got put down later. I’m not a cat lover but I feel terrible about it!

That's so sadSad
Poor little cat. I'm pleased, tho, that kits was reunited with its owners and that the vet came. Thank you for being so responsible.
Cats are lovely, can be clever, but christ! zero road sense.
Flowers for you.

You did everything you could. Flowers

Frownette · 23/11/2019 21:33

Aw, that's sad. But at least it said goodbye with the people who love it.

Winterdaysarehere · 23/11/2019 21:36

You did the best you could in awful circumstances. Not many drivers stop op.
I watched a taxi driver kill my dcat and keep driving.
Bastard.

You done everything you could, the same happend to me they bolted out the bushes at the side of the road and I couldn’t swerve or I’d have hit a tree or a brick wall. They died instantly. We live in a very rural village and there wasn’t anywhere I could take them at 11pm I wrapped them in a blanket and sat them at the side of the road. Asked on our local Facebook group and I never heard about one but it’s body was picked up and the others owner messaged me to say thank you for respecting her body. It’s heartbreaking 😭

Poor cat, and poor you! Just wanted to say thank you for stopping, I have cats, two of which have been hit by a car over the years, one person stopped and got him to the vets, the other left my poor boy to drag himself home. I was really appreciative of the person who stopped, knowing someone helped him, didn't leave him suffering and that he got medical attention as soon as possible really helped to put my mind at rest. I'm sure the owners of the cat you hit feel the same.

The vets told me that lots of people don't stop, as they don't see them the same way as they would a dog (and legally you don't have to stop for a cat as you do a dog) so give yourself a pat on the back for been caring enough to stop even though you aren't a cat lover.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Thank you everyone. It’s ironic, the cat changed direction and if she hadn’t I would probably have killed her outright which would have possibly been kinder rather than being in pain.

It’s cry sounded just like a baby’s cry😭.

I took flowers to the owners and they were so understanding and kept thanking me for stopping and trying to help it. Irony is, I’m scared of cats and didn’t go near it as it was hissing and spitting if you did go near it as it was in such pain. Another lady stopped who has cats and she tried to reassure it.

Oh, so sorry - that must be so upsetting for you. Thank you for doing the right thing though. So many people don't even stop.

GoldfishGirl · 23/11/2019 23:52

That's nice that you took flowers OP. Flowers

It happened to me. Driving through a country lane and it ran out from between parked cars. I had no time to react, and hit it. It ran off into a nearby garden, where i knocked and the homeowners said they would contact the cats owners. It was horrible but there was nothing else I could have done. Flowersfor you

I didn’t know this Sad Poor cats - I think the law should be changed!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/11/2019 04:54

This happened to.me a couple of weeks ago. It was dark (9pm) and I had to knock on doors to find the owner. I felt dreadful but the owner was lovely. Sadly the cat died a few minutes after I hit it. The owner was very grateful I'd stopped and had found her.

We have two cats and I would be devastated if someone hit one and then just left it. You did the right thing.

Aww op I once ran over a small dog. It ran out of a door and straight into the main road. It was awful and I was so upset. He didn't make it either Sad Unfortunately these things happen and you did such a lovely thing making sure the little cat was seen to as quick as possible and making sure the owners were informed. If my little cat ever got hurt in the road I would hope there was someone as lovely as you taking action.
