buster collar on dog - he can't settle to sleep

my dog had surgery today, I've been sitting with her for 3 hours and she can't get comfortable to sleep with it on.

can i leave it off?

I wouldn’t if she can then get to any stitches . I’d persevere tonight and then look into a different option tomorrow depending on what the surgery was ie a body suit . Are you sure it’s the collar that’s the problem and not that she’s in pain ? Hope she settles down and feels better soon .

I've just checked on her, she's settled and snoring

the vet said her pain relief they gave her would cover her overnight, so I'm going to set my alarm for very early to pop down and give her next lot

im going to risk it without for tonight, she's exhausted so she will sleep hopefully. I'll look into options tonorrow

It only takes a few seconds for them to rip open stitches so I really wouldn't risk it as you will be back to square one as well as emergency vets. Also the days after when the stitches are itchy can be even worse.

You can get medical suits and inflatable collars as other options.

I wouldn’t risk it at all. Like PP said it takes seconds for them to rip open stitches. I only took mines off my dog when he was in full site of me & slept a little less during that time

Well, she's fine this morning and slept really well without bothering it, I know cos I dozed on the kitchen floor next to her. I'll go up to bed whtn the other half wakes up.

I hope she’s better soon. I love that you slept with her, I would have done too.
