Self clean oven has melted my cupboards!

Looking for advice. Got a Whirlpool built in single oven that’s about 3 years old. Have used the self clean function twice before but on Eco mode - so less powerful and shorter cycle.
I put oven on normal self clean and it showed 3 hours on timer but after 1hr 30 my DH called me and said oven was off. The control panel was blank and we thought maybe it had blown a fuse. We switched it off at the plug and let it cool down - the display on the control panel lit up after a while & seems to be working.
On the kitchen cupboards either side of the oven the covering over the doors has peeled away from the edges next to the oven. The pop out buttons are now warped and will not go back into the control panel.
As the ovens out of 2 yr guarantee period what can I do? I can claim on house ins for cupboard doors but I’m so cross I’ve only used this feature on the oven a couple of times and didn’t realise it could be so dangerous.

I don't know much about ovens but it sounds like there wasn't enough insulation around the oven to absorb the heat. They do run very hot on self-cleaning mode.

I was thinking that the cooling system (such as a fan that blows air round the outside of the oven and it comes out through a gap of slots) had failed, or perhaps been blocked.

You can usually hear and feel the fan because it carries on running after the oven is turned off.

Maybe a fault stopped the cooling fan before the oven had cooled down.

Are you sure it was installed with the correct spacing and ventilation?

It could then have gone blank if there is an overheat safety cut out.
