I urge you to listen to 3 bands and 1 track in particular from each:

The War on Drugs - Eyes to the Wind
Bear's Den - Stubborn Beast
Matthew and the Atlas - Elijah

If you don't already love them you will after this and it you don't, I'll get my coat....

Love love love Matthew and the Atlas. Shall give the other 2 a listen.
If you haven't already, try Sons Of The East and Hollow Coves, both Australian.

yougotanology · 22/11/2019 23:53

I will! Thanks. Saw MATA this week at earthHackney - absolutely awesome.

It depends how 'alternative' you want to go Grin

They're too 'indie pop' for me, but nice for a rainy sunday morning in bed with a coffee kind of thing.

Veronicat · 23/11/2019 13:06

Nobody can beat The Mountain Goats. Bloody amazing. Saw them on Monday for the second time. This Year is a fantastic song.
We played No Children at our wedding😉

yougotanology · 23/11/2019 13:08

I'm checking them out now

OP posts:
yougotanology · 23/11/2019 13:09

Bunney - have you listened to The War on Drugs tho? They're not indie pop (I kind get what your saying about the other 2 but if you listen to all their stuff I wouldn't describe them as indie pop at all)

OP posts:
yougotanology · 23/11/2019 13:10

Not that I'm being defensive or anythingGrin

BeeFarseer · 23/11/2019 13:10

This thread might be short, but I love it.

Thank you, I will check them out later once my DC are in bed. Otherwise there'll be a lot of 'What's that noise?'.

TheReluctantCountess · 23/11/2019 13:14

Checking out MATA now. Thanks!

TooLateThePhalarope · 23/11/2019 14:02

The War on Drugs are fantastic. Lost in the Dream is a work of genius.

I'll check out your other recommendations.

Not a new band by any means but may I suggest

The Jayhawks-Need You Tonight
or
Offa Rex -Sheepcrook and Black Dog

Slappadabass · 23/11/2019 14:06

I will give them a listen. I need some new bands to listen too!

DameXanaduBramble · 23/11/2019 14:09

I love my music, and while it’s good, its not my thing at all. At the moment I’m listening to Rozi Plain’s new album and old favourites Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Conan Mockasin. It’s all subjective though, as I always say to my sons, you can never tell anyone their taste in music is wrong.

Jarnsaxa · 23/11/2019 14:13

If you don't know them already, check out Heilung, best band on the planet right now.

TheReluctantCountess · 23/11/2019 15:03

I liked MATA but it got a bit depressing after a while, so I’ve asked Alexa to play something happy!

Obviouspretzel · 23/11/2019 16:48

Never get the love for The War on Drugs. So tedious in my opinion.

yougotanology · 23/11/2019 16:53

With MATA you need to listen to the new album morning dancer or temples but NOT unplugged, 90% of The songs are upbeat?

OP posts:
Doingtheboxerbeat · 23/11/2019 16:58

I loved Red Eyes by the War on Drugs, it was my jam for ages.

yougotanology · 23/11/2019 17:02

When you say your jam - can you play it?

OP posts:
yougotanology · 23/11/2019 17:07

Or that you just loved it? Grin

OP posts:
something2say · 23/11/2019 17:08

I adore the war on drugs, play loads of their songs on my acoustic

yougotanology · 23/11/2019 17:10

I'm well jel - the only thing I can play is the recorder.....

yougotanology · 23/11/2019 17:11

I saw TWOD at the O2 last year, phenomenal.

OP posts:
VioletCharlotte · 23/11/2019 17:12

Thanks OP, will have a listen if those. I love Bears Den but not heard the others. I need some new music to listen to.

lilgreen · 23/11/2019 17:12
