So DS age 14 is having his bedroom updated. It's a smallish room and his bed will cover most of the floor but he wants flooring as more grown up he says Hmm - he wants a dark grey as he wants his room grey walls and black and white furniture etc. wants one of he ikea beds with drawer storage. Im ok with all this but worried about hte floor.

I'd rather he had carpet as flooring is noisy but he's adament!

So any recommendations of what flooring I can get - dotn want to spend a fortune as I said most will be covered by a bed. I dont want stick on vinyl panels as Im guessing these wont wear well.

I was looking at B&Q type of flooring

I wouldn't have hard flooring again upstairs,it's is so noisy even with a big rug down.

I know Im dreading it, would rather him have a nice grey carpet but he's 14 nearly 15 and knows everything!!!!

I feel your pain. My dd wants laminate in her bedroom, where we've just moved to. She's adamant too!

It really is irrelevant what he knows or wants! He’s not the only person living in the house and hard flooring upstairs is NOT good.

Carpet is adult, not dated and more suitable for bedrooms.

He’s 14. Be the parent/adult/homeowner here!

There’s a ton of nice grey carpet - you’re not making him have a rug with roadways on it for his cars!

Adults understand that sometimes what you’d like, just isn’t suitable!

I put black vinyl in my teens room. It's cushion so soft underfoot and looks like large black tiles. It turned out much better than expected and easy to keep clean

I would go for laminate. With good underlay and it being a bedroom, it's not going to be noisy - no one's going to walk around much if the bed takes up most of the space anyway. Not like a hallway/stairs...

I have engineered wood in all upstairs rooms and love it. It feels so much cleaner than carpet in a bedroom as well.

Possibly vinyl.. if he’s prone to spilling stuff/dropping things carpet is a pain in the long run.. if it’s to last years something wipeable might be a saviour if he goes into a binging till he pukes phase, if puke soaks into a carpet and the under lay it’s a nightmare smell.

Just had this chat with my husband, except I've got three boys that are 4,3 and 11 months. So sick of getting juice/ crisps/ sick/ mud out of their bedroom carpet so we're looking at vinyl. Maybe laminate. But definitely something that's bloody easier to clean than scrubbing carpet out.
