Housemate and I are confused as to why she's received a poling card...she's been here over 2 years - she's now on the visa where you can stay as long as you're employed (NHS). Is she allowed to vote or would she get in trouble?

Tier 2 work visa if that helps. Does anyone know? Google isn't helping!

Voting

"Qualifying Commonwealth Citizen" means those citizens from Commonwealth or former Commonwealth nations, who have leave to enter or remain in the UK, or who do not require such leave. You must not be subject to any legal incapacity to vote.

Yes. All commonwealth citizens can.

If they have a proper work visa / right to remain

Mad isn't it! My DH has lived here for 23 years, worked his entire life here and owned an run a successful business for over 10, and intends to stay here permantly (European and been granted settle status under the new rules) but can't vote unless he does the whole citizenship stuff which costs a fortune

That goes to a "page not found" btw.

Thanks to all those who replied in a non-patronising fashion, she'll be pleased Smile
