My friend is leaving work to go travelling. We are both in our fifties, she is v fit and health conscious and and will be travelling with her husband. What’s a nice/useful present? Budget about £40

A specially journal and pen?

NomadNoMore · 20/11/2019 23:33

What sort of travelling? Backpacking, luxury hotels.... I'm "older" but I travel in a van, so have very different needs to other travellers 😬

A portable charger.

What kind of ‘travelling’ & where are they going?

AHintOfStyle · 20/11/2019 23:55

Do you know what countries they're going to?

Ketomeato · 20/11/2019 23:55

Mostly Europe I think, AIRBNB/gites etc

Things I value when travelling...

Power booster for my phone which is now my camera - this one (photo 1) is brilliant

I never go anywhere without pan & paper (but I’m quite fussy so not sure I’d enjoy either as a gift)

Merino wool cardigan - very light weight but so warm & tiny to put in a bag

Bags to have an place for everything - lightweight but fabulous (mine are similar to these)

Packing cubes
A small Bluetooth speaker
A thin but warm scarf/wrap
Power bank is a good idea as PPs have suggested
A backpack/small hold-all that folds up into itself - useful for day trips/ the beach/ shopping

Oops @IncrediblySadToo just seen you already said packing cubes!
So I second that. I am a frequent traveller and absolutely swear by them.

Packing cubes. A universal bath plug. A headtorch. Universal adapter. Power bank or solar phone charger. Bluetooth speaker. Cool backpack or waist pack. Good microfibre towel. Travel lock or a chair safe. Solar alarm clock. Lined back for wet stuff. A large dry bag (I used it for dirty clothes so they don't stink up my case).

My dad is in his 70s and just started traveling. I’m buying him a portable charger.

A nice Hammam towel. I’ve used mine as a towel but also as a wrap, a sun shade, a rug etc

Ketomeato · 21/11/2019 07:48

Thankyou, these are brilliant ideas!

I was going to say peshtemal towel as well - they fold up small, dry quickly and can be used as a towel, shawl, blanket.

A nice wash bag is another idea.

A LifeStraw. No more Delhi-Belly.
