Challenge: What is this book? Very limited info

I’m trying to remember a book that I liked as a young child, but I can’t remember much about any kind of plot. The only thing I remember was that there was a creature who read books by smelling the pages. Imagine that it was probably aimed at 5-8 year olds, and would have been published before 1990.

Any ideas from the MN hive mind?

Bumping for you. It's familiar but I can't name it

Was it Beaver Towers?
Philip (Flipip) is whisked away by magic to Beaver Towers where he makes friends with Baby B, a beaver. At some point he goes to school with him and they do lessons, one of which is identifying plants by the smell.

Not getting confused with Red Dwarf - there’s an episode where Cat is reading a book by smelling it and explains that all cat books are written in smells?

That really rings a bell with me but my brain is so far failing to serve up an answer. I'll keep thinking!

Aargh, Fjp8 - that's what I was thinking of. Cat in Red Dwarf! Sorry, OP. Sad

SyntheticPumpkin · 18/11/2019 20:48

Fjp8 Not impossible I’m getting confused, but I’m pretty sure I remember it from primary school, which would have been before Red Dwarf

Definitely not Beaver Towers, I’m not sure I ever read that

I think the pages of a newspaper or book might also have been stuck together
