What can I get her for Christmas that isn't actually the game? It goes waaaaay over my head and she plays at a friend's house with the parents etc. I get the Impression you need a lot of players? There is only me dp and dd and it's just not my thing.

So what can I get that's to do with it or in a similar ilk?

There are much simpler role playing games you could take part in, or if you can’t face a role playing game at all then she might like a good strategy based board game? I can recommend either if you give me a steer.

We've had forbidden island and dessert she liked those

As PP said there are so so many similar types of games out there. What's your budget? Does she play any other games? What are her other interests (games tend to have themes to might be helpful to know). Finally where about do you live? I'm in the northwest and there are some very good board game shops that run d and d sessions that would happily help you to choose something (d and d or another game) for her.

Asked DH who likes D&D:

Nice dice set or personalised dice bag.
Her own copy of the players handbook (5th edition)
Models to paint if she uses models but find out what characters she plays.

Ok, so settlers of catan is great fun, even my mum likes that one!

Pandemic is like forbidden island but a bit more complex

Betrayal at house on the hill is a bit more similar to D and D but no dungeon masters and you can play with three so you might get a chance to experience a bit of what she’s doing. Legends of drizzt is similar but a step up in complexity

Carcassone

Sherlock Holmes the card game

Does she watch Critical Role? They have a UK merch store if she does

Talisman is a fairly simple to grasp boardgame in the RPG genre if you're looking for something to play with her and you can get expansions for it if she enjoys playing it. One deck dungeon is fun little game and it can be played as a one player game if you're not keen on joining in. If you like the idea of a boardgame, there's a website called www.boardgamegeek.com . If you search for dungeon on there it will recommend lots of games and tell you the age they're suitable for and how difficult they are etc.
