Best place to buy a sofa? And places to avoid?

Looking for recommendations thanks, I love fabric sofas, currently have an olive green velvet sofa which I love but looking for recommendations of good, hard wearing sofas

I don’t want leather or Laura Ashley style ones, but more modern looking one.

Anywhere to avoid?

TIA

Go to Sofa.com.

I took months looking for mine and ended up repeatedly returning to them.

Lots of choice, a wide range of materials, helpful staff and an extremely efficient order / delivery process. They also gave me a 20% discount (just wait for one of their offer periods) and free Insurance.

I was delighted with them and love my Sofa.

I'm looking to buy a couple of new sofas. I have a very particular style in mind and the only place I've found it is Sofology.
Are they ok or to be avoided?

Have a look at Loaf & Made op?

We bought from Sofology less than 3 years ago and they are not in great condition now! Buttons falling off, sagging arms in places. We won’t be buying from there again.

ShirleyPhallus · 15/11/2019 19:40

Yes @ilovetofu, we went to the made showroom and weren’t blown away with them, they didn’t seem to be very comfy tbh!

The last two sofas I've bought were M&S. They usually have a huge selection of styles and materials, and they've both lasted really well (current one is 11 years old and still wearing well despite two dogs and two cats getting on it at every opportunity.

Span1elsRock · 15/11/2019 19:46

Go to a local upholsterer and get one made. You'll get far better quality and value for money than any chain (I'm in the soft furnishing trade, and you'd be horrified at what a lot of high street sofas look like inside...............)

CottonSock · 15/11/2019 19:49

Sofa sofa were good for us, made in wales

RolytheRhino · 15/11/2019 19:51

Avoid Sofology like the plague. They're fine as long as everything goes well but are absolutely abysmal when something goes wrong (e.g. sofa damaged in delivery).

stucknoue · 15/11/2019 19:52

I've had them from the normal chains, 10 years I'm still fine

JorisBonson · 15/11/2019 19:59

DFS did the job for us! Good price and delivered quickly

redpickle · 15/11/2019 20:01

I've got 2 Laura Ashley sofas and they're great quality and they often have a sale on. I think they're 5 years old now and they are like new.

Ylvamoon · 15/11/2019 20:02

We ended up with one from IKEA of all places!
Very pleased with the size and design. As we where looking for something modern, comfortable and not to big!
I think choice is limited, but it's worth to have a look if you are after something specific.

csam · 15/11/2019 20:02

We've just ordered one from Quatropi.
Took a trip to one of their showrooms and was really impressed!

Mum2b2020 · 15/11/2019 20:04

My mum bought her chesterfield style sofa almost 40 years ago and it's still going. She had it reupholstered to a different colour a few years ago and has had new foam put in the cushions a couple of times. I dont think you'd get that quality these days but also dont think I'd want the same sofa for 40 years!

Shalom23 · 15/11/2019 20:08

I went for Ikea beautiful design, leather dyed all the way through ( if buying leather from anywhere check this, superficial dye does not last). I literally checked out every possible sofa buying outlet and was prepared to pay up to 3k but Ikea won and 750.

IloveJudgeJudy · 15/11/2019 20:12

We bought ours from Harvey's. It's a corner sofa with two end recliners. It's fabulous. It's not leather or courduroy or 'fabric' as such. It's a weird, hard wearing material.

mintcorneto · 15/11/2019 20:16

Please avoid Next at all costs. We had so much trouble with them from delivery to the quality of the sofa that we ended up returning ours and going with Sofology. So far we are really happy with sofology but it's only been a year lol

Cyberworrier · 15/11/2019 20:19

We have an IKEA Karlstad sofa bed which has lasted well. And a John Lewis smaller one very comfy. Looked round Made recently and like you found them uncomfortable!

TheCanyon · 15/11/2019 20:20

We got our last two sofas from dfs, were comfortable and lasted well enough with 4 dc, we passed them both on after 4-5 years.

Ordered a new one from sofology, what a fucking nightmare. Half of it was brown, other half grey black colour. Also lots of marks.

Fucked that off sharply after 8 weeks of shit and got the perfect sofa from Nabru. Designed to fit perfectly our odd dimensions with a sofa bed which we really need for 900 quid. So bloody comfy too and all modular so piss easy to fit in and move

Elyat · 15/11/2019 20:23

We spent so so long looking for our new sofa. Overly long. Multiple showrooms, sitting on everything, tape measure in hand (awkward room). Most were so uncomfortable. In the end we had settled on one. On the way home we popped into Ikea for something else and thought we may as well look.... immediately found something we loved that was so comfy. Half the price. Wouldn't have really thought to buy a big family sofa from Ikea, it's just not what I'd think of. But it's really great and we're really pleased. Worth a try.

gavisconismyfriend · 15/11/2019 20:27

Sofa Workshop. Brilliant customer service.

Rachel438 · 15/11/2019 20:27

Ikea - great place -really happy with our two sofas

toastfiend · 15/11/2019 20:53

We've got a corner sofa from IKEA. It's amazing. So comfy, washable covers, which is great with a baby and two dogs, looks great in our living room and fits into an award space, easy to assemble and cheap! Can't praise it highly enough!

Cherrysoup · 15/11/2019 21:55

@IloveJudgeJudy

I’m fascinated-what is the material? Any chance of a picture? Not fabric, not leather, not cord?

We spent ages sitting on multiple sofas for the kitchen, we wanted a recliner (so I can sit and chill after work while the DH makes dinner, he’s one in a million!) and ended up with a Lazyboy leather recliner. It needs to be wipe clean with dogs.
