What do you get out of MN?

Everyone has different reasons for being here. I was wondering what your reasons are.
Mine are the following:
It kills time. If it's particularly quiet at work, eg all the paperwork, housework and the young people are out I have a bit of downtime. I have to stay on the premises but we can browse the internet.

I have had some good advice and help from people over the years.

The topics are varied, the travel section is very useful for me and I like telly addicts.

I used to like the music section years ago when we talked about bands and gigs. It became infiltrated with questions about flute lessons, piano grading and where to buy sheet music so I don't go on that any more but miss arguing about whether Muse were any good or not and other such matters!!

I would miss MN if it wasn't here!

My reasons are:

I have a browse when I am bored.

I use it for advice.

I use it for ideas.

I learn from it.

I like to browse, as there are so many people who think very differently than I do. Its important not to stay in an echo chamber.

I agree with this. I think it can be easy to fall into a rut of onesided opinions especially if you have with friends who have the same political and value beliefs as you, as I suspect many of us do.

Mainly as a distraction from my own anxiety, it's thought provoking and interesting, lots of differing views and beliefs.

Most posters are intelligent, articulate and thoughtful.

I must admit I also like that at a time when I'm feeling pretty worthless I'm able (I hope) to advise and help others and provide virtual support and comfort.

Some threads are very amusing and entertaining.
