Why is postage for a hoody on EBay so expensive?

£15-£18Shock

Selling my ds’s guides uniform and looking for guidance. Don’t get why most on there are charging that.

? The only listings with postage that expensive are overseas ones. If you want to sell something, measure the package, weigh it on your kitchen scales then check the price on Royal Mail or which ever courier site you want to use. Just don't take the piss and try and make money on it, you're only supposed to cover actual postage and packaging costs.

For what you want to sell for UK buyers, sounds like £3 second class postage would be fine, or £4 tracked. You can get 10p off if you buy the stamp through eBay.

merryhouse · 10/11/2019 15:55

I suspect it may be an attempt to reduce percentage fees (probably against the TOS but who's policing)

Bl00mingCactus · 10/11/2019 16:07

No def from U.K. to U.K.Shock

Do all of their other listings have a similarly exorbitant postage cost?

I’d message and ask if it was correct. What’s their feedback like?

BarbaraofSeville · 10/11/2019 16:11

It doesn't reduce the percentage fees because ebay charge them on the whole amount, precisely because people would sell something for 99p plus £15 postage to try and avoid ebay fees, so they could actually make some money for themselves out of the sale.

Are you sure that the hoodie is coming from the UK? There's plenty of listings that say they're from the UK, but turn up on the slow boat from China.

Definitely check the size and weight of the package before quoting postage costs - it's only £3 on Royal Mail if the package meets the requirements for a small parcel, so a hoody would have to be folded up fairly small.

delilahbucket · 10/11/2019 16:13

No one is charging that for a guides hoodie. Perhaps an error where it is showing you international postage, which has been known. Are you looking on eBay.com by mistake?

fedup21 · 10/11/2019 16:16

Give us a link, OP.

I can’t see anyone charging that sort of postage for guide hoodie-where are you looking?

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 10/11/2019 16:19

I am currently selling an Apple Laptop. The postage is £15 BUT it is 3kg, a large parcel, and is signed for. They are definately taking the piss. Clothes are light, it should not be more than the small parcel price of £3.00, or £4.00 if signed for.

carolina21 · 10/11/2019 16:19

If people are over marking postage , I would list your at genuine postage price but make sure you have understood how much it costs . Some sellers charge for travel to post office and packing. Also eBay takes there percentage of the postage price too .

ProseccoIsTheAnswerHere · 10/11/2019 16:47

You’d be better off selling on a Facebook community page tbh, or speaking the local guide unit.

You are still charged 10% on postage so I doubt it's that. I suspect what it is is that they are probably selling damaged items and the return policy is that you pay return postage. You don't get refunded postage as a buyer generally.

That one is £2.90 postage? Which is too low imo, it will cost them more than that.

OP posts:
Bl00mingCactus · 10/11/2019 17:41

It’s not is £16.48

OP posts:
GleamInYourEyes · 10/11/2019 17:43

Your third link is showing £3 postage for me, other two are £2.90.

GleamInYourEyes · 10/11/2019 17:45

Have you set your location to US or something OP?

JigsawsAreInPieces · 10/11/2019 17:45

That one is £2.90 postage. If you're seeing a higher amount then I suspect you've somehow changed your settings to a different country and it's giving you international postage.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/11/2019 17:45

The first 2 links are coming up at 2.90, and the 3rd 3.00 for me.

flobonobo · 10/11/2019 17:45

Check what you have as your location on eBay settings!

Gabrielknight · 10/11/2019 17:46

Your location must be set wrong op.

Bl00mingCactus · 10/11/2019 17:48

Ahhhh maybe the kids set it up when we were in the US. Mystery solved. Glad I checked.😂
