Cranks stoneground. It’s quite dense but has a great flavour. You can get it in supermarkets.

Is there a Pain Cotidien near you?

Sistercharlie · 08/11/2019 15:12

Sorry gah that should read "Quotidian"

Sistercharlie · 08/11/2019 15:15

Double gah, quotidien!!

AnathemaPulsifer · 08/11/2019 15:15

Hovis seven seeds. We all love it and stays soft and nice for ages.

lazylinguist · 08/11/2019 15:17

Fresh, wholemeal bread from a proper bakery. Most pre-packaged supermarket bread has got a massive list of unnecessary ingredients. I either make my own or buy fresh sourdough or wholemeal from Booths.

Gail’s Hove wholemeal

Sistercharlie · 08/11/2019 15:23

I'm sure the Hovis tastes lovely and I don't mean to be pernickity, but "proper" bread ie without preservatives, does not stay soft for long, it goes hard almost before the end of the day. So if by "healthy" you mean fresh, with organic, whole grain flour and few preservatives op, then you have to look for a traditional artisan bakery who doesn't use proving accelerants ie they take a long time to prove the bread.

AnathemaPulsifer · 08/11/2019 15:41

Thanks @Sistercharlie. I know being soft means preservatives but in practical terms it means the bread is eaten before it goes off. We don’t get through a lot of bread.

Sistercharlie · 08/11/2019 15:48

Indeed Anathema we live abroad where we buy beautiful bread from traditional bakeries and however little we buy each day, we do tend to waste a lot!

AnathemaPulsifer · 08/11/2019 17:25

I’d love to be buying from a local boulangerie every day, but whoever I do on holiday we tend to waste a lot. So hard to judge!

AnathemaPulsifer · 08/11/2019 17:33

*whenever!

BustyBarb · 08/11/2019 17:42

I've had this thought often! Hovis seven seeds whole meal version in the orange packet is the highest in fibre that I've found, for standard sliced bread. Delicious too! Especially plastered in butter Smile

stucknoue · 08/11/2019 17:55

Morrison's has the best supermarket bakery bread, healthy? No idea but i Iike the rye sourdough

Ilovetolurk · 08/11/2019 17:56

Sainsbo taste the difference multiseed is lovely and ok for a daily sandwich or toast

Tolleshunt · 08/11/2019 18:01

If you’re near a Gail’s their seeded sourdough is the bomb

missyB1 · 08/11/2019 18:04

Waitrose Oat and Linseed sliced loaf. I love it!

BercowsPoliticalPumpkin · 08/11/2019 18:05

I love a poppyseed bloomer. I think I got it from Waitrose. Their sourdough is amazing too. We like Co-Op bakery bread. Tried done from Asda the other day and it had no flavour.
I now want toasted fresh bread with kerrygold butter!
