unwanted bath&body/toiletry gifts

Hi everyone!

I know there are quite a few threads right now about unwanted bath and shower/toiletry gifts and I just wanted to let you know about the hygiene bank (website link here). They collect unwanted hygiene items and distribute them to those experiencing hygiene poverty, so your unwanted shower gel and moisturizer could go to someone who would really appreciate it! they also have drop off locations across the uk, so you can hopefully find one local to you.

I know it sounds like i work for them, I don't! But I only recently found out about them and I think its a great use for things that would otherwise end up in the bin.

All the best x

Good idea but it would be better if people didn't buy overpriced overpackaged gift sets and just donated standard price products to the hygiene bank instead.

So instead of someone spending a fiver on packaged shower gel and body lotion that no-one ever uses they could probably buy five shower gels such as Original Source that's always on offer for a pound and the hygiene bank gets a lot more useful products.

@BarbaraofSeville I agree with you, but I always seem to end up with at least one gift set/body wash that I won't use (from secret santa or more distant relatives etc), so I just meant that instead of throwing them away (as some posters on the other thread were doing) it might be better to donate them Smile

bumping since I'm guessing at least a few people got unwanted toiletries yesterday :)

The popped up on a local FB page for my area this morning. I’ve never heard of them before but they look like an incredible organisation.

OUr local food bank is also grateful for toiletries. I always get for Christmas more than I can ever use so donate the surplus.

Thanks op. I’d not heard of this. I always collect hotel toiletries too when in hotels to donate.

Parker231 · 26/12/2019 16:53

@Honeyroar - we do the same at work. I’ve a team of 90 who stay in hotels on a regular basis and we collect the hotel minis and usually donate about 200 items a week to our local foodbank.

@Parker231 @Honeyroar thats a great idea, i don't stay in hotels often but will start collecting up the toiletries when i do.
