Year old DS has had a nasty cough for a couple of weeks. I took him to the doctor and he couldn't hear any sign of infection but prescribed me amoxicillin anyway (he ie very thorough and DS got fed up of being examined!)

This doctor is well known for being very cautious - he sent my husband to A&E as he thought he had meningitis- he didnt. Not knocking the caution but just to give context.

Cough is still bad. Baby is still breastfeeding and we had a nightmare with thrush when i had antibiotics post birth.

Would you give him the medicine?

No I wouldn’t. Tbh I wouldn’t have accepted the antibiotics either though as I hate waste. I have in the past accepted a prescription and said if child gets worse I’d get it filled.

Is the wee one unwell as in fever etc? If just coughing then I wouldn’t give the medication.

Nope....you'll have runny bum for no reason which will cause other problems.
