Are ovaries particularly well known for their superior hiding capabilities?

My GP referred me for a pelvic ultrasound for an issue I've been having. I had to have a transvaginal scan and the sonographer seemed to spend a lot of time with the probe pointing towards my left ovary. I thought there must be something there, otherwise why would he spend so much time looking in one spot?

Fast forward a few weeks and I've been back to the GP today for the scan results. It was all clear, right ovary was fine, left ovary was... not seen Confused Where is it? Where did it go? Do I even have a left one? I am fairly overweight, could fat have been hiding it somehow? Even though I had an internal scan?

Nobody seems concerned, the GP didn't even tell me the left one couldn't be seen. He just said everything was fine and then handed me a printout of the scan results. I read it when I got home and there it is in black and white, 'Left ovary - not seen'. I can't stop thinking about it now Confused

Yes it's pretty common. They aren't necessarily not in the right place but might just not have been picked up by the ultrasound which can happen. They'd have said something if they were concerned I'm sure.

My left one hides. Had many transvaginal scans (ivf) and they always have to press quite hard on that side for quite a while.
I'm not overweight, I think they just shift around sometimes or are in slightly different places. They've always found it and managed to get measurements etc but a lot of them were in private clinics so not as pressed for time.

Your ovary is there, it's just whoever did the scan couldn't get a clear enough picture of it on this occasion.

My ovaries are both fine and 'normal' btw, it's just the left one isn't as easy to get to with the scanner stick. Pretty common apparently. Flowers

Apparently so. DD was told she had no ovaries, she now has 3 D.C. so I think they were probably wrong.

My right one is a right bugger. Loads of tv scans and it always tucks right up the back.

My left ovary is in the middle of a territory war with my bowel.
Every scan shows bowel and ovary wrestling or tangled up.
Can't wait I'm having it oot.

My left ovary hides too.

Wow well who'd have thought it? Ovaries are well known for being hide and seek champs!

My left ovary is behind my bowel. I also have a very tilted womb so scans are always fun as they try to work out where everything is...
