To be sung at the top of your voice, in a "fuck you" manner. If that makes sense.

I've actually been separated nearly 2 years but it's still hard going, constant harassment blah blah blah. It wears me down. I need music to play in the car when I dont have the children, that I can sing loudly and badly to.

Suggestions, please!

"You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette.

And on the softer side, "Sail On" by the Commodores.

AnuvvaMuvva · 30/10/2019 07:30

This is my favourite genre of music, even now I'm very happily married.

So What by Pink is your anthem! "So what, I'm still a rock star, I've got my rock moves and I don't need you. And guess what, I'm having more fun, and now that we're done I'm gonna show you that tonight, I'm all right, I'm just fine..." etc. Video is hilarious too.

I played the whole album (Funhouse) on repeat when I was splitting up from my twatty first husband. It's about her own near-divorce and spans every emotion you have during a split. Love it.

Oh, and Anastasia is good in these situations too.

Try i'm Outta Love and Left Outside Alone.

Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri has great fuck off lyrics. "I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed."

And an oldie but a goodie is No More The Fool by, er, someone. My mum sang that over and over when my dad had a brief midlife crisis.

dudsville · 30/10/2019 08:02

Oooh, I'd forgotten about jar of hearts. That became my fuck you song when I'd experienced a series of deaths arms happened to come across it. Got a fair bit of emotion out over so.e wine and loud singing to that!

EugenesAxe · 30/10/2019 08:19

The Rage Against the Machine song is called ‘Killing in the Name of’ and I agree is an excellent angry song. That little section ends with ‘MUTHAFUCKERRRRRR! UNNNGH!’

I like Garbage for anger... Not My Idea would be good; it includes the lyric: ‘You thought I was a little girl, you thought I was a little mouse, you thought you’d take me by surprise... now I’m here burning down your house.’ Supervixen is good too.

Psycho Killer by Talking Heads isn’t bad for emotional release, and it’s not revenge or anger orientated but their ‘Take Me to the River’ is too... the ‘hug me, tease me’ bit especially.

From my personal favourites Pink Floyd, I’d probably choose the whole of the album The Wall. ‘In The Flesh?’ is a great, thrashy opening of a song for a start.

Difford · 30/10/2019 08:19

This may seem like an unlikely suggestion but there is a song on the soundtrack of the first series of Nashville (ridiculous country music soap opera) that is absolutely perfect for a break up. It's called Wrong Song and is about a lying cheating ex thinking you will come running back to them. Its fab and great for singing along to in the car!
