Ahhh started with a sore throat this afternoon, now running nose which is trickling down back of throat. All the signs in me of a cold starting.

I have a massively important week lots to do....really can not be ill or unwell.

Anything I can take to wade it away? Im not in pain but starting to feel abit iffy

My mother swears by vitamin C + zinc tablets (they’re an all-in-one tablet) you can get them in Superdrug’s/boots etc.

LizzieSiddal · 28/10/2019 18:40

First Defence. Had a couple of friends who say it really seems to cut the length of the cold by a couple of days.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 28/10/2019 18:41

Long hot bath, small brandy (or warming Spirit of your choice) and an early night.

Also, if you can’t stop it (which you probably can’t) I find the lemsip day and night tablets make me feel I can carry on in the day time. Hope you feel better soon.

Pixel99 · 28/10/2019 18:43

Hot honey and lemon and go to bed with a hot water bottle or two.

Wallywobbles · 28/10/2019 18:44

Fresh ginger, cinnamon stick and fresh whole sliced lemon in boiling water. I fill a jug with boiling water and the above and keep filling it up. If I drink it at the first sign I can stop it developing.

Also fasting is very effective. Do after supper today until supper time tomorrow and you should be a

A good'un

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 28/10/2019 18:47

I’m sorry I’m going to have to ask how will fasting reduce the impact of a cold?

LizzieSiddal · 28/10/2019 18:48

Day nurse is great, it always perks me up when I have a cold.

awesmum · 28/10/2019 18:49

Go for a run! I swear by it. Gets rid of colds and hangovers!

LizzieSiddal · 28/10/2019 18:49

Fasting won’t help anyone whose got an Important week, as the OP has. Silly idea.

BonnesVacances · 28/10/2019 18:51

Spend 24 hours in bed, drink plenty of fluids, and it'll be gone quickly. It basically just lets your body get on with fighting the cold. I swear by it. But then I'm lucky to have a DH who lets me, which helps! Grin

ItsOurTime · 28/10/2019 18:52

I don't think you can stop it once its started! I second the day nurse though, the capsules are the best I've tried (and I've tried lots 😫)

Yika · 28/10/2019 18:54

Sleep. Go straight to bed and rest!

CalamityJune · 28/10/2019 18:55

Vitamin C and Lemsip. Hot bath and early night. Olbas oil.

Lunaballoon · 28/10/2019 18:56

Echinacea tablets. They’ve nipped many a cold in the bud for me.

SunshineAngel · 28/10/2019 18:56

I honestly think once you've got a cold, you've got a cold. Anything you use is either to ease symptoms, or a placebo.

I would stock up on soft tissues, lemsips, Vicks and brandy..

I usually find that so long as I medicate myself right, I can just keep buggering on when I have a cold. So Lemsips every few hours (whatever it says on the packet), Ibuprofen at the same time (not para, as the drink contains it already).

Throat sweets if you have a sore throat.

Redcrayons · 28/10/2019 18:56

I go running.

msmith501 · 28/10/2019 18:57

Echinacea and Golden Seal from your local health food shop...

AnotherEmma · 28/10/2019 18:59

First Defence, I absolutely swear by it.

GetRid · 28/10/2019 19:11

First Defence.
High dose vitamin C (only works in v early stages of a cold)
De-stress yourself
Don't get cold eg not wearing a coat outdoors
Early night

Luxembourgmama · 28/10/2019 19:49

Drink loads of vitamin c

Youreterriblemuriel99 · 28/10/2019 19:50

First defence
Lots of water (no alcohol)
Healthy meals with lots of veg
Early night and a bit of a lie in if poss
Those nasal strips that open up nasal passage so you sleep with mouth closed

AnathemaPulsifer · 28/10/2019 20:10

Soluble vitamin C and zinc at first sign of a cold usually works for me.

DariaMorgendorffer · 28/10/2019 20:19

To echo others:

First defence
Zinc & vitamin c lozenges
Plenty fluids
Rest & keep warm
Veggie/chicken soup with plenty garlic, ginger & chilli
