I cba to get on the bus again to town (& don't really want to spend bus fare for the girls again). There's not much they're going to do about it over the phone is there?

Nope. Even if you went back you can't really prove an absence of something. You might just need to chalk it up to bad luck and keep and eye on the register.

carolina21 · 28/10/2019 16:14

I'm
Not sure u could try calling but tbf might take as long to get through to someone as it would to go back

lucysmam · 28/10/2019 16:16

Meh, I didn't think so. I cba to go back & I cba to ring for them to say "umm, no" so that's that then. I'll view it as having paid full price for the £3 trainers instead of them being bargainous :)

If you're checking your bank online, sometimes transactions appear twice (they do in mine). So might be ok?

bloodywhitecat · 28/10/2019 16:20

You could always try messaging them via Facebook, see if they can help.

Alicia9999 · 28/10/2019 16:21

This is about £1.50???

Lulualla · 28/10/2019 16:25

If you only put your card through once then they can't charge you twice. There need to be 2 authorisation codes to charge twice, but only one will be produced when you use your card once unless something super weird has happened.
It's usually the bank. The payment will remind in you "pending" section for a few days and then disappear and the money will be back in your account. It happened to me 3 weeks ago with a £56 Tesco shop. I had 2 pending transactions, waited a few days and one wen through onto my statement and the other disappeared and the money was released into my account.

chipsandpeas · 28/10/2019 16:28

@Lulualla sounds like the item has scanned twice

lucysmam · 28/10/2019 16:31

@chipsandpeas yes scanned twice.

@Alicia9999 I didn't say £1.50 anywhere in any of my posts so not sure where you got that from? It's a little bit more than £1.50 and puts me slightly over what I had budgeted for today. I'll adjust elsewhere, not a major deal but not sure why you seem to feel the need to judge?

TheReluctantCountess · 28/10/2019 16:33

Maybe use the power of social media and contact them through Twitter. You’ll probably get a gift card Smile

lucysmam · 28/10/2019 16:37

Aah, I know where the £1.50 came from - the trainers were reduced to £3 but they aren't the item that's been scanned twice.

Sohololopopo · 28/10/2019 16:49

£3 can be someone’s only money for their only meal for that day, so to be so shocked that this is the case is quite frankly shit and unnecessary.

No OP I don’t think anything could be done unfortunately. It happens often in Primark though so always check your receipt! The workers are normally having to go super fast!

AJPTaylor · 28/10/2019 16:51

It's a pain but I check the receipt whilst still at the till. It's easy for the worker to scan twice.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/10/2019 16:52

This is all about £1.50.

It’s ignorant to say that though. We don’t know ops financial circs, do we.
It might be be a lot. However to some it’s not a little either. £1.50 is £1.50

wigglybluelines · 28/10/2019 16:52

Yes, contact them and complain. They might compensate you for it. I would.

lucysmam · 28/10/2019 17:10

@AJPTaylor I think I will start checking at the till from now on. It's never happened before thankfully, but is a bit of a pita.

You can always explain what happened via email, they might send you vouchers as a goodwill gesture.

You could also ring the store and see what they advise, maybe you can bring the receipt in the next time you’re near the store.

I’m not saying it’s worth litigating or going nuclear over a small amount of money but if they scanned something twice, you’re not unreasonable to want to get that mistake rectified.

Lhastingsmua · 28/10/2019 20:11

Oh just wanted to add that things like this happen all the time in retail - I used to work at topshop whilst studying and this would be refunded no questions asked.

Ilovetolurk · 28/10/2019 20:14

This happened to me. The cashier was chatting to her colleague and not paying attention. I emailed customer services and they responded by investigating the video footage. After a month I got a refund and a £5 primark voucher.

Ilovetolurk · 28/10/2019 20:16

That was for £2.50 socks scanned twice btw. I know it’s not a lot but it’s the principle - cashier was not paying attention

SleepyKat · 28/10/2019 20:22

I had this happen in Waitrose with a £6 pizza. They did take me at my word and refunded but I had to go in with the receipt. I’m not sure that Primark’s customer service would be so trusting. I could have course bought two pizzas and being doing a scam to get one for free. I wasn’t, but had no way of proving it.

PrettyPurse · 28/10/2019 20:26

I had this with Sports Direct. They charged me twice for a rucksack. Was extremely painful in getting a refund....but l did eventually.

They wanted me to travel from Northampton to London and go back to the original shop. I refused. Social media helped though

SamanthaJayne4 · 29/10/2019 14:25

I was charged three times for one transaction in a bargain shop. They said the first two transactions didn't go through. I checked online with my bank and they had. I phoned my card company and they reimbursed me. The amount was about £9 so I had paid £27. If you paid by credit card maybe you could be reimbursed OP. There wasn't anything wrong with my card, the paper was stuck in the machine in the shop so the transaction went through on the third go after someone unblocked it (plus the other two times).

Crawley65 · 29/10/2019 14:31

I’d email them with photo of receipt. Hopefully you will hear from them. If not pop into the shop next time you are passing.

It doesn’t matter how much it’s for, they’ve overcharged you and it should be for corrected.
